2 We help County residents reduce household waste through waste diversion education and initiatives. The division is responsible for: County/City Waste Management Facility Peterborough Landfill Blue Box Recycling (Curbside, Depot, Campgrounds, Events) Municipal Hazardous or Special Waste (MHSW) or Household Hazardous Waste

3 Additionally, the Division has taken the lead on County-Wide initiatives working cooperatively with Townships on programs for: Organics (Green Bin, MOLOK, Backyard Composting, Leaf and Yard) Waste Electronics and Electrical Equipment (WEEE) Construction and Demolition Recycling (C&D)

4 Guided by the Waste Management Master Plan: Endorsed by Council in January 2013 Goal of 60% diversion in 20 years (by 2030) County achieved 49% diversion in 2013!

5 In 2002, the County acquired 50% ownership in the Peterborough County/City Waste Management Facility (PCCWMF) located at 1260 Bensfort Road. Operations are administered by the City of Peterborough. Township garbage is transferred to this facility.

12 Depot collection 1 site per Township funded through County levy (Bobcaygeon in Trent Lakes) Township has 8 yd. bins 34 fibre, 32 containers at 4 Transfer Stations Solar Fibre Compaction Project Started in 2010 and located at Buckhorn Transfer Station (pay $36.06 per tonne vs. $90.25 per tonne in front end system)

14 Depot residents bring organics to Buckhorn Transfer Station with other waste. Materials are collected in deep well units called MOLOKS. Materials are transferred to Harper Road composting Facility in the City of Peterborough. County has limited approval for organics processing
