7/24/2018 THE PEOPLES GAS AND NORTH SHORE GAS ENERGY EFFICIENCY PROGRAMS BOMA Chicago Energy & Sustainability Open Committee Meeting Kevin McKay and Vanessa Perkins July 11, 2018 Who Qualifies? Privately-owned business customers o Small business o Commercial o Industrial Public facilities now served through each utility o Public K-12 and charter schools o Local and municipal government 2 1

Energy Efficiency Program Services The program will address specific energy needs o Program design allows us to customize services and make the process easy o Identified opportunities help you meet and exceed your energy-saving goals How is that accomplished? o Strategic Energy Management o Develop a plan to identify the best product offerings that will meet your specific needs o Gain agreement and implement cost-effective, energy-saving strategies with programsupported project management o Program will document and track savings for your facility 3 Rebates: Prescriptive Program Prescriptive Program o Menu/Catalog of 1-for-1 upgrades for designated equipment Steam traps: $20 per trap surveyed, and $100-$200 per failed open trap Boiler tune-ups: $0.30 per MBH input Pipe insulation Equipment upgrades o Standard prescriptive rebate application Program staff assist with all paperwork Some measures require pre-approval, but not all 4 2

Rebates: Custom Program Custom Program (aka saves gas, but not on Prescriptive Application) Private Sector rebates for the lesser of: o $1 per therm first year savings (projects > 7,500 therms) or $0.75 per therm first year savings (projects 7,500 therms) Buy down to one-year payback 50% of the total project cost or full incremental project cost Public Sector rebates for the lesser of: o $2.50/therm first year savings Buy down to one-year payback 5 75% of the total project cost or full incremental project cost Gas Optimization Studies Free Department of Energy-level surveys by qualified engineering companies Industry expert analysis of your facility to ensure optimal performance of energyusing systems and identify no- and low-cost improvements as well as some capital-grade projects Engineering services are covered, customer commits to complete a subset projects with a payback under 1.5 years Four tracks: o Building optimization (HVAC/controls targeted) o Process optimization o Steam plant optimization 6 3

Engineering Studies and Retro-Commissioning Engineering Studies o Support a deeper dive into a particular system o $15,000 total benefit 50% upon study completion 50% upon project implementation Retro-Commissioning In partnership with the ComEd Energy Efficiency Program. Service providers perform studies to optimizes the energy performance of your facility to improve your bottom line while ensuring a comfortable environment for building occupants. Receive a fullyfunded study performed by a service provider to identify both gas and electric no-and low-cost operational improvements of your building s existing energy-using systems. RCx RCx Express Building Tune-Up 7 Monitoring Based Commissioning (MBCx) Smart Check Smart Check Studies o Designed to be offered to customers who have not previously participated in the program. NO commitment to do the work. o Roadmap for future projects o Study includes: A detailed Gas Op miza on Study An inventory of uninsulated steam piping A steam trap survey o Results summarized in a Natural Gas Efficiency Plan 3 Phased approach to measure implementation 8 4

New Construction o Gas Only Program Offerings Prescriptive and Custom o Joint New Construction Offering with ComEd Program team work with engineers and architects during the design development phase to specify more energy-efficient equipment Both gas and electric incentives available 9 Staffing Grants Staffing Grants o Designed to help businesses overcome barriers that prevent the implementation of energy efficiency projects o Customers who have energy efficiency projects that cannot be completed due to lack of staff time or availability may be eligible for Staffing Grant funds o Program offer up to $50,000 per customer per year to fund a project manager to guide projects to completion 10 5

7/24/2018 Success Story: Palmer House Hilton The program team has been working with the director of property operations for several years to reduce energy consumption and costs o In the competitive hospitality industry, rebate programs are often the tipping point to move energy efficiency projects forward. o The Peoples Gas rebates make it easier to get management to set aside capital for these projects. 11 Projects include: o Boiler efficiency improvements o Demand-controlled ventilation o Pipe insulation o Steam traps o Direct installation of pre-rinse sprayers o Guestroom energy management system o Gas Optimization Study Total savings: 133,000 therms Total rebates: $58,500 Success Story: Urban Innovations The People Gas team provided assessments of several properties to identify energy-saving opportunities. o The firm plans to use savings to implement additional projects in the future. o We had all of the information we needed upfront to guide our decisions. The expert energy team provided a payback analysis, including projects eligible for rebates and the savings going forward. 12 Projects include: o Boiler tune-ups o Steam trap testing o Steam trap replacements o Steam and hot water boilers Total savings: 23,775 therms Total rebates: $30,104 Estimated Annual Savings: $17,831 6

Success Story: Roquette America, Gurnee Prescriptive Program o Steam traps 52,000 therms; $5,600 rebate Custom Program o Process pipe insulation 173,000 therms; $146,000 rebate o Power purge Desiccant drying heat recovery 125,000 therms; $217,000 rebate Optimization Program o No-cost/low-cost measures 79,000 therms; $15,000 study o MAU energy upgrade 388,000 therms (+ significant kwh); $500,000 rebate Total savings: 817,000 therms Total rebates: $883, Contact Us Vanessa Perkins, Energy Advisor vperkins@franklinenergy.com , Ext 2629 (office) Kevin McKay, Energy Advisor kmckay@franklinenergy.com , Ext
