Project Objectives DriDanube aims to improve capacity of the Danube region for drought emergency response and enhance preparedness for drought management by introducing new monitoring and risk assessment tools 1) Improvement of drought monitoring by operational innovative service monitor, forecast, evaluate and respond during drought development - improved in time (faster analysis of the data) and accuracy (spatial resolution of the state-of-art satellites) 2) Unification of drought risk assessments cross-border coherence of risk and impact assessment (Civil Protection Mechanism) 3) Proactive drought emergency response current slow reactions during drought - speed up with improved decision-making process 6 January 2017

Project Result & Outputs Improved drought emergency response and better cooperation among operational services and decision making authorities in a Danube region. TOOLS Drought User Service Methodology for drought impact assessment Methodology for drought risk assessment STRATEGY Strategy to improve dorought emergency response PILOT ACTIONS LEARNING INTERACTIONS on regional and national level 7 January 2017

Methodology for drought IMPACT assessment Preparation of common methodology for near real-time drought impact assessment (state-of-the-art, focus on development methods that will allow quick and efficient assessment of drought impacts during the ongoing drought episode) Preparation of common methodology for near real-time drought impact forecast Methodology for drought RISK assessment State-of the-art analysis Preparation of common methodology for drought risk assessment (EU Civil Protection Mechanism) Mapping of risk Regional & National Learning interactions 8 January 2017

Drought User Service Big Data Management Risk Assessment Impact Assessment Cloud based interface field data evaluating, comparison End User Training of trainers 9 January 2017

Drought Response STRATEGY Review of current status of drought management Weaknesses and gaps in existing management Optimal drought management plan/model Drought User Service PILOT ACTIONS Simulation of performance of proposed optimal drought management model during recent or one past drought event In case of drought near real time pilot actions If no drought tested and reevaluated on the most recent drought in the region 10 January 2017

Drought Response National Capacity Building National Briefing Seminars to engage project stakeholders already at the beginning of the project and keep them engage throughout the project to inform them what will be the outputs of the project, why is the project important and in which parts their input and participation will be needed National Drought Seminars to present practical usability of the project outputs/results in their operational work (how to interpret results from the Drought User Service, etc.) Strategy to improve Drought Emergency Response to receive feedback on how they will integrate project outputs into their operational work 11 January 2017

DriDanube Kick-off Conference 16 March 2017 Ljubljana, Slovenia to kick-off the project to present activities and planned outputs to create awareness and engage key stakeholders already at the beginning of the project to show the relevance of the objectives we want to achieve for the Danube region to present past or on-going similar activities (capitalisation) in the Danube region and wider (EU, global) Getting ready for the drought! 12 January 2017
