Q Q Highlights of this issue Nevada Recycled Art Competition SCL One Project Responsible Business Forum 2014 Sustainability Highlights Sands ECO360 Quarterly More than just ideas these are our steps to action By: Rene Brana, Global Sustainability Manager Nevada Recycled Art Competition Las Vegas Sands Sustainability team was the proud sponsor of the inaugural Recycled Art competition hosted by the State of Nevada. The competition, held throughout the state, invited creativity through the sole use of reused and/or recycled materials and was open to all ages. The competition saw more than 90 entries from across the state and they were divided into five categories, K-5, 6-8, 9-12, adult and class/club submissions. Prizes ranged from $250 for first place to $50 for a third-place win. The artwork was displayed in the Palazzo Las Vegas atrium assisting the event goal of spreading awareness about the opportunities to reuse and repurpose common household items. The Las Vegas Sands Sustainability team looks to work with the State of Nevada to make this an annual event coinciding with America Recycles Day November 15.

The Hotelier Awards China 2014 PA s Recycled Wreaths Syed Mubarak, Director of Sustainability & Facilities at Sands China, received the award for Corporate Social Responsibility Hotelier of the Year for his work with the Macao properties. Dina Angelucci received the award for Housekeeping Hotelier of the Year. Both Team Members have been champions of the sustainability cause for some time now. Dina and Syed have worked closely on improving the sustainable operations within the housekeeping department and beyond. Though their work definitely does not end there! Congratulations to you both on this inspirational achievement! In the spirit of reuse and recycling, the team at Sands Bethlehem issued a challenge - create a Holiday Wreath using only recycled materials. Team Members were provided with a base and shredded playing cards. The results were nothing short of impressive! Participation and feedback was positive with more than 19 departments taking part. Sands Bethlehem is excited to make this a yearly event. Pictured above submissions from the event let us know what you think. Las Vegas Spook-tacularly Creative Halloween Halloween may come only once a year but recycling is a way of life at the Venetian, Palazzo and Sands Expo. More than 30 departments across the property participated in the annual Sustainable Halloween booth contest for the Trick o Treat Safe Streets event. The contest judged the most creative use and percentage of recycled materials used in construction of the booths. The annual Safe Streets event provides Team Members families with a safe alternative to traditional trick o treating. The enthusiasm of the teams and the amazing display of creativity contributed to the record breaking attendance with more than 2,200 people visiting the event. The winning teams included: the Box Office, Facilities, PAD, F&B, and the Sands Expo teams who all deserve bragging right as you can see from their impressive designs! Who knew you could have so much fun with recycling!

Going Green for the Holidays at MBS SCL joins Hong Kong Carbon Registry Marina Bay Sands kicked off the holiday season by giving back to those less fortunate. As part of their Go Green for the Holidays campaign team members collected new and pre-loved gift items for children between the ages of The campaign provided Team Members the opportunity to donate items, volunteer their time collecting and wrapping items or both. The generosity of team members at Marina Bay Sands made it an extraspecial holiday season for many children in their community. Sands China has been recognized for taking action where others may not have. As of December 15th, they have become one of only 64 companies listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange to audit their carbon footprints and disclose this data publicly. They were joined by organizations from more than a dozen different sectors including construction, finance, and utilities among others. Their data was added to Hong Kong s online Carbon Footprint Registry or CFR, developed by the HK Environmental Bureau. Certificates were presented to the first 64 companies in recognition of their leadership in their sectors. This is a bold new direction and it shows that Sands China is without a doubt a true leader in this sector. Congratulations to the SCL team on such a huge milestone! Food waste may be a thing of the past at Sands Bethlehem In December, Sands Bethlehem welcomed an addition to their team a brand new food waste digester. The machine, which takes food waste and processes it into an environmentally safe food/water mix was installed in their TDR kitchen. The nutrient dense bio-water is sent down the drain to be treated at the wastewater treatment facility. You might ask, How does this benefit the environment? It s still being thrown away! Well, there are a number of benefits; from fewer garbage trucks on the road to less garbage odor from decomposing food waste in a dumpster. By not sending the waste to the landfill it reduces methane gas emissions as the food decays. Methane gas is 20 times more potent of a Greenhouse Gas producer than CO2 (carbon dioxide). A great new addition to the green team in Sands Bethlehem!

IMEX America and Sustainability All of our properties hold a wide variety of sustainable events but few compare to the annual IMEX America event held at Sands Expo. More than 10,600 attendees descended upon the convention center October th to take part. It is considered one of the largest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) focused trade shows in the United Sates. This single event brings together almost every department across the property, which operate seamlessly to deliver unparalleled service throughout the event. Each year the event organizers sponsor a local charity as part of their Give Back initiatives. This year s beneficiaries were The Shade Tree, a shelter for women and children in crisis, and Opportunity Village, which serves Nevada citizens with intellectual disabilities. The Shade Tree was also part of the IMEX Challenge where volunteers, including many of our Team Members, helped build a Healing Garden for the women and children staying there. Sustainability is a major focus for the event and incorporates sustainable food (including compostable service-ware), a comprehensive donations program (everything from office supplies to event signage), and even sustainability tours of the property. This year the event was able to reduce food waste by 20%, electricity and natural gas use by 5% each, increased the number of donations by 46% and increased the use of sustainable food by 7%. All of this while increasing the number of participants by 7% from last year! For more highlights from the event click here or visit MBS is definitely on board This year the Marina Bay Sands team has set a new standard when it comes to Team Member participation. Over the course of the year, they saw more than 5,400 unique Team Members participate in sustainability events. That means that close to 58% of their 9,400+ Team Members took steps to incorporate sustainability into their daily lives. Talk about milestones! Now in the spirit of competition they strive to beat these numbers year over year. So here s to seeing them beat that number in 2015! Recycled Christmas Decorations When you think about wintertime you think of the holidays, family and sometimes coming down with a cold or two, ugh! This year everyone seems to be coming down with the recycling bug over the holidays! Demonstrating their holiday cheer, the Housekeeping team in Macao designed and created recycled Christmas trees. All of the trees pictured are made from recycled materials including plastic water bottles and packaging.

MBS hosts ITB Asia 2014 Asia s premier travel trade show has become one of the most sustainable around thanks to the help of MBS. ITB Asia 2014 wanted to host a carbon neutral event and where better to hold it than at one of the leading sustainable meeting destinations in Asia. The integrated resort s team helped ITB Asia achieve their goal of event carbon neutrality through a combination of efforts spanning the entire property. This isn t the first time this has been asked of the team at MBS. They were able to help ITB collect energy, waste and water data through the use of the Sands ECO360 Impact Statement. Reduction in emissions took place in a number of ways, from locally sourced food to the donation of booths from the event. The remaining emissions were then offset by carbon credits, the proceeds of which go towards renewable energy projects in Indonesia and Malaysia. All of the unused booth giveaways were donated to MBS partner charity, Food from the Heart. This proves that sustainable actions can make any event a little more ecofriendly. Especially when you re an award winning leader in sustainable events! Tis the Season for giving in PA! Bethlehem, PA was given the nickname Christmas City, USA years ago. In the spirit of giving over the holidays, Sands Bethlehem Team Members have been busier than Santa s elves. They donated more than two tons of food to the Hispanic Shelter back in November. They also donated chef s aprons to a local culinary school, Holiday Giving Trees to the Boys and Girls Club and even shipped half a ton of them to service members overseas. The trees, one of which benefitted the Boys and Girls Club and one to the military, are set up for Team Members to choose a donation item which are hung like ornaments form each tree. The team at Sands Bethlehem certainly helped earn the nickname Christmas City this year! Macao Trailhiker Promoting Macao s Greener Side The Sands China team joined more than 1,800 participants to experience Macao s natural beauty by hiking more than 10km through Macao s nature preserve! The Trailhiker event which is in its fourth year, was hosted by SCL and experienced record participation this year. Tickets sold out in less than 21 days! This fun activity allows participants to choose between a 10k and a 30k route. The routes take participants through Macao s nature preserve in Coloane and helps expose community members to nature in a meaningful way. Participants even came from Hong Kong to participate since they have very little green space on their side of the bay. LV Green Captains Program UPDATE It pays to go green! As a Green Captains that is. Since the beginning of the program only a few short months ago, the Las Vegas Green Captains have taken the property to new sustainable heights. The team developed a Sustainability Scorecard which assesses the sustainable practices within each group and allows the Green Captains to create their own as well. With participation from more than 60 departments the Green Captains found more than 50 unique waste minimization projects. Projects including the sale of used playing cards in retail shops, changing the settings for printers, copiers, and computers to save energy, and completely transitioning from paper Personal Action Forms (PAFs) to electronic versions. The Green Captains team in Las Vegas is making huge strides, helping to keep the property on the cutting edge of sustainability.

Clean the World One Project Day at SCL At MBS All you need is Less Thanks to the efforts of the team in Macao another One Project is complete. One Project is an initiative created by Clean the World to help engage organizations by having them establish a goal to create a certain number of hygiene kits, composed of hotel room amenities such as shampoo, soap & conditioners that are then distributed to people in need. Sands China s goal was to construct 20,000 kits benefiting five local non-profits: Caritas Macao, the Fuhong Society of Macao, the Macao Red Cross, the Macao Association for the Parents of the Mentally Handicapped, and the Macao Youth Volunteer Association. Sands China gathered more than 1,000 volunteers from the property and local community over 2 days to complete the task. The team in Macao was so successful that they accomplished their goal in one day instead of two! Another successful event in our partnership with Clean the World. In other Clean the World news, this year Sands China has almost tripled the number of amenity donations to the charity compared with 2013 donations. Congratulations to the entire Macao team on such an amazing and impactful achievement. To help encourage more sustainable travel, MBS participated in a free exhibition highlighting the tourism industry s sustainability efforts. The exhibition was open to the public and included Eco-Cubes demonstrating the steps that have been taken by the industry to reduce its environmental impact. Guests were also able to experience a Sea Junkyard and a Waste Nation thanks to 3D artwork created on the sidewalks. Events like this help our guests understand the broad impact that their actions have while they stay with us. Not only is it educational, it is creative and colorful as well! Sustainability Awareness Week How do you educate more than 3,200 Team Members about sustainable practices that they can use at home and at work? You hold a week full of sustainability focused events with topics ranging from energy, waste and water reductions all the way to alternative transportation. With more than 50 Green Captains leading the charge the excitement was visible, (thanks to the long lines) with more than 3,200 Team Members in attendance. They helped achieve an impressive 45% participation rate across the Las Vegas property. Everyone that participated received a reusable water bottle to encourage less use of paper and plastic cups. Even better, there were prizes hidden in some of the bottles such as movie tickets and gift cards.

Responsible Business takes shape at MBS Marina Bay Sands hosted the Responsible Business Forum on Sustainable Development. The forum gathers leaders from around the world to discuss topics such as sustainable growth and sustainable supply chains. To make an event about sustainability more sustainable, Marina Bay Sands activated many of their sustainability features throughout the meeting space. These included, all meeting room occupancy sensors to adjust lighting levels, installed energy meters in the meeting rooms to provide live streaming of actual energy use, and developed an event impact statement summarizing the ecological footprint of the meeting. Since it was held at one of the most sustainable properties in Southeast Asia, the environmental impact was greatly reduced when compared to an average meeting space. The clients appreciated all of our sustainable meeting initiatives; they were able to set new targets, track progress, and even use the event impact statement to report their achievements to their own employees and stakeholders. Just one more way that our Sustainable Meetings program is making an impact, and it s clearly being noticed. Sands ECO360 Retail Products arrive in LV Following the trend set by the MBS team, we now have Sands ECO360 retail products available for our guests in Las Vegas too! The product line is made of entirely sustainable materials. The merchandise is either made from recycled material or from a renewable resource. The Las Vegas property partnered with BluMarble to collect the property s recycled bottles and converts them into designer gift items. The bottles become everything from jewelry to shot classes. Even more impressive is that they provide an incentive of 10 cents per bottle received. The incentive will then be donated to local non-profits to support the community. Aside from the BluMarble products, Las Vegas is also selling sustainable t-shirts, hoodies and caps made from 100% recycled plastic bottles and cotton. These items are a fashionable way to show support for sustainability. Now our guests will be not only well dressed, but sustainably dressed, too!
