NGV System Italia, the association of the Italian Industry for natural gas and bio methane in transport, dates back to 1996, bringing together the most significant companies whose products allow and ease the use of natural gas in transport The NGV System Italia represents a professional family that: includes HD & LD OEMs as well as the most qualified Italian system and equipment manufacturers. takes part in national and international standards development. is a privileged environment for information and knowhow exchange. constitutes a an important institutional stakeholder for development of Natural Gas and Bio Natural Gas in Transport is NGV GLOBAL B.O.D. member, NGV EUROPE member, ANGVA member is ANIGAS associated

DAFI Directive Deployment of Alternative Fuels Infrastructure: CNG & LNG

Implementation of Directive on the Deployment of Alternative Fuels Infrastructure (DAFI)

Gas in transport is the way forward and in line with EU policy! Available, reliable, economical, full integration of renewables Reduced emissions of NOx, Particles, GHG and Noise Only real alternative to oil available today! Source: NGVA Europe Brussels, 26 May

NG buses & garbage trucks a European success story (main countries units) CNG buses: CNG trucks: 900 (incl. 10 LNG) CNG buses: CNG trucks: (incl. 320 LNG) Mercedes Econic NGT, Athens CNG buses: CNG trucks: 800 (incl. 70 LNG) CNG buses: CNG trucks: 500 (incl. 60 LNG) CNG buses: CNG trucks: 170 (incl. 0 LNG) Iveco Bus CNG, Barcelona Source: NGVA Europe statistical update mid 2014 Others (HD NGV): Netherlands (1.100, inlc. 400 LNG), Norway (900), Greece (720), UK (700, inlc. 630 LNG), Czech. Rep. (600), Poland (500), Portugal (460), Slovakia (330), Bulgaria (400), Lithuania (250), Switzerland (300), Austria (220) Brussels, 26 May

LNG trucks for long distance transport Diesel vs. CNG / LNG 1 Liter CNG 5 litre 200 bar Diesel LNG/LBG 1,8 litre -162ºC at1 bar -125ºC at10 bar Two technologies are available for heavy engines: Dedicated, spark ignited, 100% gas Dual Fuel/HPDI, diesel for ignition, natural gas main fuel LNG for longer transports, CNG in cities and distribution Brussels, 26 May

CNG/LNG for road facts CNG stations vs petrol/diesel outlets 1bn investments/mainly industry : 10% NGV station penetration ( points) LNG 900+ CNG stations (IT + GER) only 6-7% market access 60 LNG stations exist, at least 100 more needed next 2 years No impact without EU strategy Source: NGVA Europe Brussels, 26 May

Main Advantages of LNG for Transport 1 Fuel capacity D range = km 2 Mature technology already available 2 Specific use for long haul missions on road 3 Refuelling timing in 4-5 minutes

The National Strategic Plan for LNG The Italian government is concluding the activities for the National Strategic Plan for LNG A National Coordination Group (NCG) was established to define the regulatory, technical, environmental and economical aspects of LNG. In addition, the safety and social impacts for the use of LNG in shipping and road transport on heave duty vehicles (trucks, buses, trains) were also considered. The Coordination Group has the objective of presenting the National Strategic Plan on the use of LNG in Italy. NCG Participants: Ministry of Economic Development (Coordinator) Ministry of Transport Ministry of the Environment Ministry of Internal Affairs Regions Universities and ENEA ANCI National Associations Concerned (NGV Italy) LNG Terminals Research Centers (RINA, IGC) Other Stakeholders(Iveco) NGV Italy hadthe secretary of subgroup3 (Heavy Duty Transport)

The National Strategic Plan for LNG System

The Planned Scenario In ltaly, a production equal to 10% than the total production of fuel for transport is estimated within the year2030.thistargetisboundtoasetofenablingfactors: - Current fuels taxation - Current rules and regulations for transport system - Availabilty of LNG filling stations to ports and logistic platforms according the max distances disposed by DAFI - Competitive prices of LNG HDV The growth of infrastructures needs relevant investiments(around 4 5 Mld ). - Eni in progress with a business plan to the development of LNG infrastructures, forecasting the opening of 20 new stationsi along the Ten-T network in Italy The CNG filling stations are growing (average +50 new stations every year), pushing up the potential development of LNG facilities - This growing trend is estimated until 2020, according the implementation of DAFI Directive. In the 2020 scenario, the outlook is that10% of new CNG facilities will be L-CNG, suitable to satisfy the future demand of LNG for long distance haulage
