The volume of world trade has seen a 27 fold increase in the last half century, greatly exacerbating the pressure, caused by economic growth, on the 1 environment. Industry finds itself today thrust into the heart of the global challenges which are fundamental to its growth: the explosive rise of raw material prices, the multiplication of regulatory restrictions and the consequent costs... These challenges can be transformed into new opportunities for growth, for those companies who know how to seize them. REDUCE your environmental footprint Solutions Reduce your environmental impact We develop solutions designed to prevent, measure and reduce this impact, such as that of resource depletion on natural ecosystems and the generation of pollution and waste. You can rely on our expertise, secure in the knowledge that we are a world leader in energy, water, environment, waste and all associated services. Preserve natural resources and biodiversity It is possible to reduce your consumption of water and the volume of waste you generate, at source. Depending on your needs, we consider the feasibility of providing alternative water sources by maximising the reuse and recycling, or by substituting drinking water by surface water. Regarding waste and water treatment sludge, we work in partnership with your teams to develop and implement strategies to reduce, recycle or to recover your unwanted waste commodities. As well as bringing you financial benefits, these measures also make a significant contribution to the preservation of natural resources. Carbon-free energy? For several years, we have been involved in the production of energy with reduced carbon emissions. We can bring this experience to you to help you both reduce your energy consumption and optimise your energy mix by increasing the proportion of renewable energy (solar, wind, geothermal, biomass...). We have the skills and experience not only to design and build your on-site energy production facilities but also to manage and maintain these assets during their service life. We even go as far as securing the consequent carbon credits and in offsetting any residual carbon deficit through compensation schemes. Energy recovery from waste and biomass Waste from wood, cereal and foodstuff residues, sludge... all contain energy, so why not make good use of it? We have developed several innovative technologies enabling us to transform these waste streams either directly into fuel or into biogas, through methanisation. By considering your waste as a valuable resource rather than a worthless reject we can help you to reduce your costs of buying fossil fuels and reduce your environmental footprint at the same time. 4

Success Stories Detailed study to optimise energy management PSA Peugeot Citroën turned to Tractebel Engineering and its partners Laborelec and ExpertGaz Energy to reduce the energy consumption of its global automobile production activities by at least one third. Applying the Sustainable Energy Master Planning methodology to a typical automotive plant, Tractebel Engineering was able to make several dozen innovative recommendations to improve energy efficiency and to introduce renewable energies. Key Figures Industry accounts for 40% of global CO 2 emissions and 30% of energy consumption. International Energy Agency, ,000 tonnes of CO 2 emissions avoided One way to reduce carbon emissions and costs at an industrial facility is to optimise the energy production mix. The MICHELIN plant in Cholet (France) was delighted with a proposal submitted by Cofely, which included: a cogeneration plant with an energy recovery boiler equipped with a post-combustion burner with air injection, several gas-fired boilers and a 10MW (22,000 tonnes of wood per year) biomass heating unit. Cofely is managing the entirety of the operations and the maintenance of the fluids supply for a period of 15 years. Produce more whilst consuming and polluting less Operating an aluminium smelting furnace like the one owned by RIO TINTO ALCAN (France) is complex and energy-intensive. The specialists at GDF SUEZ Global Energy applied the results of a numerical analysis and digital simulation to identify malfunctions and opportunities to improve furnace efficiency. Significant results were achieved, in particular: Energy consumption was reduced by 2,000 MWh (-4% per year). Reduction of CO 2 emissions (-360 tonnes per year) and of CO. Increase of productivity of 20 to 25%. Reduction of maintenance costs by 30%. You knew how to challenge those principles which we considered solid. Thank you for having doubted us, you have been able to help us to improve. RIO TINTO ALCAN Neuf-Brisach 55

2 Solutions When nearly three-quarters of all raw materials used by industry are returned to the natural environment as waste, the question has to be asked as to whether a linear model of economic growth (extract, transform, dispose) based on the use of an increasing quantity of resources (energy, water and raw materials) is sustainable. Socially responsible businesses have a key role to play in this paradigm shift which promises to open up whole new market opportunities while enabling them to reduce costs and risks. COMBINE environmental and financial performance Use environmental performance as a lever to boost competitiveness We have incorporated environmental performance as a source of value creation into all of our business areas energy, water, environment, waste and all associated services. Assisted by our research and innovation centres, our technical and sales teams work together every day to dream up new solutions which will differentiate your company and help it move towards a more sustainable business model. Identify your opportunities for improvement Undertaking a full survey of all your installations is the starting point for every improvement plan for their environmental and economic performance. We have developed diagnostic tools tailored to your needs, in order to study all your energy flows and environmental performance (water cycle, waste...) at one or more sites. Improve your environmental and energy performance Considering that nearly 70% of the environmental impact of an installation or a building is pre-determined in the design phase, it is vital to be proactive as early as possible in the process in order to improve energy efficiency. That is why our approach to optimisation is global and integrates the entire life cycle of your energy and environmental (water, effluents and waste) systems from their conception to their operation. We provide you with different options up to a fully outsourced management of your energy systems, water and waste, backed up by a commitment to achieving specific results. Reduce your bills for energy, water and waste treatment What s the best way to track, manage and optimise your utility bills? Thanks to the smart metering which we can install in your production plants and buildings, together with our expert advice, you take control of your consumption and are able more effectively to reduce it. Committing to a circular economy Imagine the waste from your company becoming a raw material. Waste reduction, re-use and recycling are the guiding principles of the circular economy, inspired by closed-loop natural ecosystems. It is our job to bring this concept to the business community. Applied to an industrial park, it is referred to as industrial ecology. 6

Success Stories On-site production of green electricity As part of its sustainability policy, BASF entrusted Electrabel with the construction of six wind turbines to supply energy to its plant in Antwerp, Belgium. Electrabel covered the full cost of the investment, allowing BASF to concentrate on its core business. The new on-site wind farm supplies 35 GWh of electricity at a competitive price while offering major environmental advantages, such as 14,000 tonnes of CO 2 emissions avoided per year. Key Figures By 2039, global reserves of copper extractable at an acceptable cost will be exhausted at the current production rate of 15.6 Million tonnes a year. An efficient performance audit Provalys Performance Energétique (PPE) deployed a team from Sesam Energies, its energy and eco-performance audit division, to NIORT FRÈRES, a client in Saint- Etienne-du-Rouvray (France). Several improvement opportunities were identified, covering energy production (boiler room), industrial equipment (compressors) and the buildings themselves (insulation and energy-saving light bulbs). NIORT FRÈRES, specialising in spare parts for cars and lorries, will now be able to rank recommended actions by level of priority on the basis of their environmental benefits and estimated cost savings. 7M in annual savings on water INEOS chose Ondeo Industrial Solutions to manage its entire water cycle at its refining and petrochemical complex in Scotland, which refines 10 million tonnes of crude oil per year into transportation products and produces ethylene, ethanol, butadiene, benzene and plastics. Through this contract, which is committed to delivering results, INEOS has saved over 7M from annual cost reductions. Important environmental benefits were achieved, including: Improved reliability of water supply Reduction in waste water and effluent discharge by reusing waste streams Developing an environmental management system that exceeds stringent requirements (double certification ISO and OHSAS 18001) European Copper Institute, 2008 From day one, they have continuously demonstrated real value in terms of actual cost savings and performance improvement. 8 Businesses and the community at large pay a high price in human, environmental and economic terms for work-related accidents and occupational diseases, in the same way as for the failure of an industrial plant. The International Labour Organization has estimated that the direct and indirect socioeconomic costs involved totalled $1,250 billion in 2009, equivalent to about 4% of annual global GDP. 3PROTECT the health and safety of your personnel and ensure the safety of your installations Solutions Health, safety, quality and the environment: a duty of excellence The safety and health of our employees, respect of the environment and quality of service are absolute priorities for the GDF SUEZ group. We offer you a broad range of services to support you in the following subjects: training, health and safety partnership programmes, and technical solutions requiring no human intervention. Guaranteeing the reliability and the performance of your industrial plant is essential Detecting malfunctions and non-conformities or increasing the life expectancy of your installations and their availability: we intervene as early as possible to analyse, prevent risks and improve the reliability of your assets. Key Figures Success Stories About 2.3 million people die every year as a result of a work-related accident or an occupational disease. International Labour Organization, 2009 Polluted industrial site reborn as eco-business park Before it closed in 2003, the METALEUROP foundry in Northern France refined various metals, including zinc and lead, and produced 250,000 tonnes a year of sulphuric acid. After the plant s closure in 2004, SITA undertook the environmental remediation of this site with its reputation for being hazardous to workers health and to the environment. In order to perform all the necessary remedial activities for the depollution, treatment and recovery of the wastes, SITA had to call on the activities of all its specialist subsidiaries. This factory, once a major source of pollution, has been reborn as an eco-business park containing several recycling companies. This highly successful industrial conversion brings a new social and economic dynamic to this former mining community. 8

4 Corporate responsibility for the impact of business activity on human health and the environment is increasingly monitored and regulated. The environmental policy of the European Union is based on the conviction that the existence of ambitious ecological standards encourages innovation and business opportunities. Companies need constantly to adapt to current regulatory constraints and to anticipate them. COMPLY WITH and ANTICIPATE regulation Solutions Anticipate regulatory trends Regulations governing energy, water and waste services are constantly evolving and becoming increasingly stringent. It is very difficult for any company to keep up with, let alone fully understand, the hundreds of documents published every year relating to the environment. By regularly sharing with you clear, understandable information, we can help you anticipate these changes in order to limit their impact on your activities. You will also be better prepared to win new business created by the new regulatory climate. Reduce your taxes Our customer contracts contain objectives with regard to compliance with environmental and health and safety standards, as well as a commitment to provide you with timely advice. Well-managed regulatory conformity can help you to reduce related taxes and future costs whilst at the same time projecting the image of a socially responsible company. Success Stories At the heart of industrial process In order to progress ever further in the reduction of energy needs and to be prepared for the rigours of future environmental legislation, the Research & Development teams of our Group work in partnership with our customers, sometimes directly involved in their industrial processes. ARCELORMITTAL has benefitted from this know-how within the scope of a joint research project with GDF SUEZ. A high-efficiency regenerative burner has been developed to reduce direct-flame preheating on galvanized sheet metal production lines. Key Figures 50 kwh PE/m²/year by 2011 is the energy performance target set in France for new commercial and public-service buildings. Grenelle II (France), 2010 The research project has shown promising results which we hope to confirm now during its first industrial application. Karen Beaujard, ARCELORMITTAL 9

5 Companies reputations and the trust placed in them by their stakeholders unquestionably influence their intangible value. The image conveyed by a brand can have a direct impact on its development, on the sales of its products and services, and on the motivation and loyalty of the public at large. Companies commitment to sustainable development has become a highly important issue for their employees, customers, suppliers and shareholders. BE a responsible company Solutions Choose a socially responsible partner GDF SUEZ was one of the first companies to align itself with the United Nations Global Compact at its launch in July By adopting the ten principles of the Global Compact (e.g. human rights, labour norms, the environment and the fight against anti-corruption...), we reinforced our commitment as a socially responsible business, recognising social and environmental issues. Let us put our experience to work for you by integrating a sustainability approach into all your business activities. which has built social and environmental rigour into its offerings Reconciling corporate efficiency with social solidarity and eco-responsibility, our services are conceived and delivered in a manner consistent with our commitment to sustainable development. You benefit from our expertise in developing communication tools to raise awareness amongst your personnel of the importance of intelligent resource management and in highlighting your approach to your stakeholders. Key Figures Success Stories The ISO standard, relating to social and environmental responsibility of companies, lays down the principles of the application of sustainable development to organisations. Raising employee awareness a motivating exercise WYETH in Belgium, a subsidiary of the PFIZER Group, teamed up with Electrabel to mobilise its employees to consider how energy could be used more rationally. WYETH used the internal communication tools provided by Electrabel: stickers, newsletters, leaflets and the Energy Corner..; and their internal programme Start to Save was a great success. Consumption dropped by about 10% within a year. 10

6 Companies today must meet transparency criteria in reporting environmental and social data for all of their business activities. It is a legal obligation in most European countries (e.g. the 2001 "loi sur les Nouvelles Régulations Economiques (NRE)" in France and the 2005 regulations governing Operating and Financial Review (OFR) in the United Kingdom). Furthermore, customers and consumers increasingly expect to have open access to environmental and social data concerning the products or services they purchase. COMMUNICATE in full transparency Solutions Monitor performance indicators As part of our ongoing effort to ensure transparency and ongoing improvements, we include performance indicators in our commercial contracts. They allow you to monitor our progress in meeting fixed objectives, the level of service quality we achieve and also to provide us feedback on your level of satisfaction. Depending on your stated needs, more detailed reports (social, environmental and/or financial) can be produced for you periodically. Access your data online Our service offerings are now reinforced by reporting tools which are accessible on a secure Internet platform. This gives you direct access to your data and your reports on energy and environmental efficiency, or the status of your maintenance operations. An analysis of key information can also be produced (for example: quantity of waste produced, energy consumed...) by business line or by site. Key Figures 2,456 companies in 60 countries communicated their greenhouse gas emissions and reduction strategy to reduce them, in a survey organised by CDP*. *Carbon Disclosure Project, 2010 Success Stories Real-time data access, 24 hours a day Whether they are called COFELYdirect or ONDEO IS direct, the interactive tools developed by the Group connect you instantly to our teams whenever you like. In a few clicks you can access your contract history, you can question our technicians or you could download your latest activity reports including an update on your performance indicators. COFELYdirect is: 35,000 users 10,000 service requests a month... 11
