Foreword Chapter 3, 5.2 and in this standard are mandatory; the rest are voluntary. This standard was formulated by making reference to the International Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) CODEX STAN , Rev ) "Codex Standard for Natural Mineral Water". This standard replaces GB "Drinking Natural Mineral Water". There have been some significant changes in this standard over GB in the following aspects: "All contents are mandatory" was changed to "Some provisions are mandatory"; The definition of natural mineral water was improved; Product classification was added; The specific provisions on the requirements for water source were deleted; the requirements for water source were implemented according to GB/T "Geologic Exploration Specification of Natural Mineral Water"; The "bromide index" among the boundary indexes was deleted; Four limit indexes (stibium, manganese, nickel and bromate) were added; four limit indexes (cadmium, arsenium, boron and fluoride) were modified; and four limit indexes (lithium, strontium, iodide and zinc) were deleted; Two pollutant indexes (anion synthetic detergent and mineral oil) were added; and one pollutant index (nitrite) was modified; Three microbe indexes (Streptococcus faecalis, pseudomonas aeruginosa and clostridium perfringens) were added; and one microbe index (aerobic bacteria count) was deleted; Appendix A "Data Requirements for Water Source Assessment Report of Drinking Natural Mineral Water (Informative)" was deleted; and Appendix B was changed into Appendix A. Appendix A in this standard is informative. This standard was proposed by China National Light Industry Council. This standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee 472 on Revision. Page 3 of 13

GB 7718 General Standard for the Labeling of Prepackaged Foods GB/T 8538 Methods for Examination of Drinking Natural Mineral Water GB/T Geologic Exploration Specification of Natural Mineral Water GB Hygienic Specifications of Factory for Drinking Natural Mineral Water 3 Terms and Definitions The following terms and definitions are applicable to this standard. 3.1 Drinking natural mineral water It refers to the water that gushes naturally or is collected through well drilling from deep under ground; contains a certain amount of mineral substances, microelements or other compositions; is not contaminated in a certain area; and has been protected against contamination by taking preventive measures. Generally, its dynamic indexes, such as chemical compositions, discharge and water temperature, are relatively Page 5 of 13

stable within the natural periodical fluctuation range. 4 Product Classification According to the carbon dioxide content in the products, the products may be divided into: a) Carbonated natural mineral water: the natural mineral water that is with visible isogenous carbon dioxide releasing and foaming naturally under normal temperature and pressure after the water has been packaged; b) Carbonated natural mineral water: The natural mineral water treated to be foamed by filling carbon dioxide according to those specified in 5.3.2; c) Non-carbonated natural mineral water: A kind of natural mineral water with the free carbon dioxide content not exceeding the carbon dioxide content that is necessary for keeping the bicarbonate dissolved in water, after the water is treated and packaged according to those specified in 5.3.2; d) Degassed natural mineral water: A kind of natural mineral water without visible carbon dioxide releasing naturally under normal temperature and pressure after the water has been treated and packaged according to those specified in Requirements 5.1 Requirements for water source The exploration and evaluation of water source site, the protection of water source and the monitoring of the water source site shall be carried out according to GB/T Water quality requirement Sensory requirements It shall be in accordance with those specified in Table 1. Table 1 Sensory Requirements Item Requirement Chroma / Degree 15 (must not be shown in other abnormal color) Turbidity /NTU 5 Odor With the characteristic taste of mineral water, without foreign odor or peculiar smell Page 6 of 13

Clostridium perfringens Notes: n the number of the samples that shall sampled from one same batch of products; c the maximum allowable number of samples that may exceeding the M value, those exceeding this value will be judged as "unqualified"; m the limit (CFU) for the maximum allowable acceptable level in every 250mL (or 50mL) sample; M the limit (CFU) for the unacceptable microbe in every 250mL (or 50mL) sample, those samples equal to or larger than the M value all shall be unqualified. 5.3 Requirements of processing technique The natural mineral water shall be explored, processed and package on guaranteeing hygiene and safety of raw water and meeting those specified in GB Under the premise of not changing the basis characteristics and main component contents of the source water of drinking natural mineral water, the unstable components may be removed through such methods as aeration, decantation and filtration; it is allowable to recycle and fill isogenous carbon dioxide; and it is also allowable to add food additive - carbon dioxide or to eliminate the carbon dioxide in water The raw water shall not be transported to another site with vessels for loading. 6 Inspection Methods The water quality requirement shall be inspected according to the method specified in GB/T The water quality assessment report of natural mineral water may be filled according to Annex A. 7 Inspection Rules 7.1 Sampling Random sampling quantity of each batch of products: at least 10 bottles for those products with net content less than 3L; at least 5 barrels for those products with net content no less than 3L. 7.2 Exit-factory inspection The batch of product shall be determined according to corresponding rules. For each batch of products to be delivered out of factory, the sensory requirements Page 9 of 13

and the coliform bacteria, pseudomonas aeruginosa in the microbe indexes shall be tested The streptococcus faecalis and clostridium perfringens content shall be tested at least once every month. 7.3 Type inspection All the items specified in the technical requirements of this standard are type inspection items; it shall be inspected at once during the wet-season period and dry-season period every year; or it shall be inspected when any one of the following conditions appears: When the equipment are replaced or the technique is changed significantly; When resuming the production after production shutdown; When the delivery inspection result has relatively significant differences from the normal records; When the water quality is with relatively big fluctuation. 7.4 Judgment rules If the inspection items do not meet those specified in this standard, then a double-quantity samples shall be taken randomly from this batch of products to re-inspect the unqualified items; the decision shall be subject to the re-inspection result. If there is still one item among the re-inspection items is unqualified, then this batch of products are deemed as unqualified products. The microbe indexes shall be inspected and judged according to the requirements of Marking, Parking, Transportation and Storage 8.1 Marking The labelling of prepackaged products shall not only comply with the relevant regulations of GB 7718, but also meet the following requirements: Indicating the name of water source site of natural mineral water; Indicating the boundary indexes, content of total dissolved solids and the content range of primary positive ions (K +, Na +, Ca 2+ and Mg 2+ ) for qualified products; The "Fluorine-containing" letters shall be labelled if the fluorine content is larger than 1.0mg/L; Page 10 of 13

The product type shall be labelled, which may be indicated in a attribute form before the product name, for instance: "natural mineral water"; or the product name "natural mineral water" shall be labelled with the product type like "gassy" or "carbonated"; however, for "non-carbonated" and "degassed" natural mineral water, the product type may be exempted from labelling Unless otherwise being examined and approved by the relevant departments of the state, the product label shall not cover any words on medical effect. 8.2 Packing The packing materials shall conform to the requirements of the relevant sanitation standards of the state The external part of packing containers (bottles and barrels) shall be kept clean, these containers shall be covered tightly without leakage phenomenon, and the label shall be sealed and stuck firmly. 8.3 Transportation The means of transportation shall be kept clean and hygienic.
