Page 1 of 6 The Eloo - The Dry Human Sanitation System The Eloo is Ideal for Areas Where: The ground will not perc. See The Eloo Work Click Here Surface water is being polluted. There is a moratorium on septic systems. Infrastructure is aging. There are water shortages. There are leaking pit/vault latrines. The Eloo's Features: Uses no water or chemicals

Page 2 of 6 Needs no electricity or batteries No odor and no flies Requires minimal maintenance Zero discharge - nothing goes into the ground Enormous capacity: uses per day Stable and sturdy - made from polyethylene does not wear out, crack or leak (25,000 currently in use and no problems since 1993) No effluent will flow out during flooding and flooding does not damage the unit Eloo Technology Invented by Dr. Brian E. La Trobe, CUA Vice President for Research & Development, the Eloo utilizes bacterial and biological technology. The Eloo has been installed in many countries since 1993 with over 25,000 installed worldwide. This widespread experience has demonstrated that it is a cost-effective, respectable, hygienic and environmentally friendly sanitation system that satisfies the dignity of all users. The Eloo is a Dry Human Sanitation System It is NOT a: Compost toilet Chemical toilet Electric toilet Pit latrine Applications Hunting and fishing cabins Sports fields Campgrounds

The Eloo operates by separating the liquid and solid wastes. Human feces consists of roughly 95% liquid. The waste is subjected to sufficient ventilation and ambient heat to achieve the necessary dehydration and evaporation. The Eloo Is Odorless Radiant heat is absorbed and conducted through the ultra violet protected black polyethylene plastic of the manhole cover and vent pipe. The increased internal temperature causes convection airflow, which is assisted by the ventilation extraction unit, positioned on top of the outlet vent pipe. This unidirectional positive ventilation ensures that all odors are extracted through the toilet and container and expelled via the

Page 4 of 6 ventilation extractor at the top of the vent pipe and/or by power assisted fans where applicable. It is important in indoor installations to ensure continuous ventilation to avoid odors. Eloo Maintenance The Eloo needs to be inspected on a regular basis to check on the quantity of solid waste on the drying plate and whether the dried waste needs removal. The period between servicing i.e. removal of dried waste will depend on the number of users per toilet per day. It is therefore recommended that the units be inspected on a regular basis for the first 3-6 months after commissioning to ascertain usage, which will determine the periods necessary between inspections and waste removal services thereafter. The removal service intervals could range from every 6 months to approximately every 3 years, depending on usage. So What Is It? Eloos are holding tanks: unusual because of their smaller size and shape and the fact that they evaporate the liquids and de-water the solids. In some codes they may also be considered vault toilets. The reason they are not composting toilets is that they do not compost! Solids and liquids are not mixed in this system and there are no additives. What comes out, when it needs to come out, is disposed of according to code. A number of states and localities might also class Eloos as "Innovative" or "Experimental" onsite treatment systems, not because Eloos are new but because Eloos were not known at the time of the last code revision and are just now coming into the United States through Clean Up America.

Page 5 of 6 Eloo Specifications The units have been designed for the separate components to stack allowing for compact, economical transport and shipping. All the necessary parts and components including the ceramic bowl and a detailed manual are supplied. Eloos are classified differently in the various states. For example, in Texas they are "Holding Tanks with Evaporative Exhaust" and in the Washington State they are "Vault Toilets". Check with your local CUA distributor or licensed sanitation professional as to what the code allows in your area and what is required for installation at your site. In Hawaii the site design engineer decides what system is best for any given site. In California and Michigan the county regulators decide. In Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Indiana non-discharge units such as Eloos are allowed by the state but must be permitted by the local authority. In most states vault toilets and holding tanks are allowed on sites which do not have running water and for which other systems are not practical. Eloo International Award Winning Invention To date the Eloo has won many awards. They include: Intel-Tech Museum Award November, 2005:top prize for scientific breakthrough environmental technology benefiting humankind. Copyright 2005 by Clean Up America. All rights reserved.
