1 Position Reports to Food Safety Manager Quality Manager Company Synlait Milk Ltd Date: January 2015 Location 1028 Heslerton Road, Dunsandel, Canterbury Purpose To build and maintain an aligned approach to food safety across Synlait Milk Limited (SML) operations including contracted service providers. To provide for in-house food safety expertise that can be leveraged to train, mentor and coach Synlait staff by sharing knowledge and best practices relating to food safety. To create food safety expertise that benefits Synlait during food safety related investigations, troubleshooting and crisis management. To proactively address ever-changing and increasingly stringent food safety regulations, as well as the rising expectations of Synlait s customer base. To monitor and react to current/emerging food safety issues (allergens, contaminant testing, etc.). To strengthen Synlait s reputation with regulatory agencies, and maintain our competitive advantage. Key Performance Areas Food Safety Oversees implementation of food safety strategies/standards including HACCP, RMP, GMP, facility design, hygienic zoning, cleaning/sanitation, pest control, etc. Establishes and maintains food safety and hygiene metrics to monitor continuous improvement, and communicates to senior management. Develops and executes food safety training programs for SML staff and contracted service providers, and strengthens food safety awareness across the entire SML business Quality Performance Expectations Oversees implementation of food safety strategies/standards including HACCP, RMP, GMP, facility design, hygienic zoning, cleaning/sanitation, pest control, etc. Complies with all relevant company policies and delegations Complies with all Quality Assurance / ISO systems Identifies and remedies any health and safety hazards and reports any incidents Food Safety Manager PD January 15 Page 1 of 6

2 Health & Safety Performance Expectations Provides leadership and directions in matters relating to Health and Safety by understanding and implementing the Health & Safety policy Establishes safe working practices at all times Motivates team members to comply with and participate in best practice principles Ensures team members participation in Health & Safety training Ensures all injuries and accidents are reported through the designated H&S process Regulatory Compliance Participates on project teams responsible for new supplier and contracted service provider qualification to assess potential food safety risks and assess established control plans. Supports SML Regulatory function to assess specific regulatory requirements and other factors as related to food safety and microbiology. Interfaces with regulatory agencies to communicate/manage food safety risks, and provides updates to the RMP. Budget and Financial Performance Undertakes specific analysis and investigations/ projects as directed and in an accurate and timely manner. Projects Participates on project teams responsible for new supplier and contracted service provider qualification to assess potential food safety risks and assess established control plans. Undertakes projects as directed and ensures completion in a timely manner Professional & Personal Development Undertakes identified personal training / development with the prior approval of the Quality Manager Remains abreast of current industry related trends, practices and disciplines and undertakes regular updates in either competency training or changes in law as required. 6 Qualifications, Skills and Experience Qualifications: Minimum Bachelor degree in a scientific or technical discipline (Food/Dairy Science, Microbiology, Engineering or related) Experience: Prior experience in a quality and food safety role (minimum of 7 years) in a regulated food/dairy manufacturing industry. Experience in manufacturing of infant/follow up formula preferred Manager of people role for minimum of 3 years. Experience interfacing with regulatory authorities ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations. Skills: Knowledge and application of continuous quality improvement tools and metrics to cost effectively improve product quality, safety and plant hygiene standards. Proven success in managing problem solving teams focused on deviation investigations, analysing and interpreting food safety/quality issues, and creating/executing effective corrective and preventive actions. Demonstrated ability to evaluate risks and shape decisions to ensure product safety, quality and compliance, and in consideration of potential business impact. Understanding of quality systems including RMP/HACCP, microbiology, facility design/hygiene, corrective action/preventive action, process/product qualification, and the successful application of these strategies across an organization to produced desired results. Health & Safety 1. All staff must be conscious of potential safety problems at all times 2. A Health and Safety Policy is in place within Synlait. Instructions regards safety given by the Health and Safety representatives must be followed at all times.
