2 Unit Descriptions HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. This unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide CPR in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings. This course is also part of both the HLTAID003 Apply First Aid unit of competency and HLTAID004 Provide an Emergency First Aid Response in an Education and Care Setting unit of competency. What is Covered 1. Respond to an emergency situation 2. Perform CPR procedures 3. Communicate details of the incident 2 RTO HLTAID003 Provide First Aid This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings. This unit of competency must be updated every 3 years and the CPR component must be updated every 12 months to remain current. What is Covered 1. Respond in an emergency situation 2. Apply appropriate first aid procedures 3. Communicate details of the incident 4. Evaluate own performance HLTAID004 Provide an Emergency First Aid Response in an Education and Care Setting This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults. The unit applies to educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies. This unit of competency must be updated every 3 years and the CPR component must be updated every 12 months to remain current. What is Covered 1. Respond to an emergency situation 2. Apply appropriate emergency first aid procedures 3. Communicate details of the incident 4. Evaluate the incident and own performance

3 Course Information Mode of Study All First Aid units of competency are completed in 2 stages: Stage 1 - online pre-reading and written assessment requirements via the Asthma Foundation's online learning platform 'Learn It Live It. This can also be completed as a written test on the day. Stage 2 - face-to-face classroom practical assessment requirement Students are required to complete both stages to be deemed competent. The HLTAID001 unit of competency runs for the morning portion of the day, therefore students are only required to be in class from 9:30am 12:00pm. The HLTAID003 and HLTAID004 units of competency are a full day in class; therefore students are required to be in class from 9:30am 4:00pm. Please note, HLTAID001 is incorporated into HLTAID003 and HLTAID004. Unit Duration - HLTAID001: 3 hours - HLTAID003: 18 hours - HLTAID004: 18 hours Unit Assessments - Multiple choice quiz completed online or in class on the day - Observation assessment/practical assessment tasks completed in person Physical Requirements It is a requirement of this course that the practical demonstration of CPR by the learner be performed on the floor. Additionally, the CPR practical demonstration is physically demanding and we actively encourage all potential students to discuss any concerns with our enrolment officer prior to enrolling in the course. Unit Materials Received upon enrolment: - Unit text (includes copies of PowerPoint slides and quiz) - First Aid book (HLTAID003 and HLTAID004 only) - Access to online learning management system Received on the day of practical assessment: - Observation assessment (completed by assessor) - Disposable face shields (x2) - Disposable ventilator spacer (HLTAID003 and HLTAID004 only) - First aid fridge magnet (HLTAID003 and HLTAID004 only) Attendance Once the online portion of the selected first aid unit of competency has been completed, students have 3 months to complete the practical portion of the unit. If students fail to complete the practical assessment within this period they will need to complete the online portion again. Competencies To be deemed competent in the selected unit of competency, students are required to successfully complete both forms of assessment. Qualification Upon successful completion of their chosen unit of competency, students will receive a Statement of Attainment RTO

4 Entry Requirements These units of competency do not have any entry requirements Language Literacy and Numeracy Due to the form of assessment and the format of the online portion of the units, it is recommended that all candidates be competent in written and spoken English. Any language, literacy and numeracy concerns identified upon enrolment will either be referred internally to arrange appropriate support strategies or externally for additional support services. Internal support strategies vary depending on the student s needs. Please speak to a student advisor for more information or to find out what would be right for you. Support Services A wide variety of support services are available to students to assist them with completing their chosen unit of competency. If amendments to unit resources are required, this is arranged upon enrolment. To find more information regarding what supports are available, it is recommended that candidates speak to a student advisor prior to enrolling. Technical Requirements To complete the online portion of the unit of competency, it is necessary for all students to have access to a computer that can play sound and has access to the internet. Due to this, students should have basic computer skills and the ability to follow instructions on how to use the online system. It is highly recommended that students use either Google Chrome, Safari, or Firefox web browser as the online system may not be compatible with other browsers. Additionally, it is recommended that students do not use their mobile phones to access the system as this can create issues when completing the quiz.
