9 Meet some of our campus hires Jennifer Evans Boston, MA and London, UK Associate, Technology, joined June 2011 Life Before Sapient Global Markets Prior to joining Sapient Global Markets, I was an undergraduate at Boston College, studying math and communications. I worked in web development at Boston College and at the Museum of Science. How You Decided to Join Sapient Global Markets I hope it doesn t sound cliché, but it was the Sapient s culture that sold me. Unsure of whether I wanted to pursue graduate school or enter the professional world, I was looking for a company that would support my personal growth and interests. I remember expressing this in one of my interviews with a senior level manager. He encouraged me to continue following my ambitions, to own my own growth, and assured me that it was OK to not know exactly what I wanted to do. He explained that Sapient was in the business of hiring good people and investing in them and their ideas. I was immediately hooked. The Impact of the Global Markets Institute (GMI) and Learning on the Job During Your First Year at Sapient The GMI and on the job training were hugely important in my first year at Sapient. Spending 100 nights in India sounded mildly terrifying but the relationships created and communication skills learned made the experience worth it. Not only does the GMI expose you to the workplace culture in India, which is super helpful when you work with India teams through our Global Distributed Delivery (GDD) model on a daily basis, but it allows you to network with new hires from across the US, UK, Canada and India. GMI has correctly prepared me by further teaching Sapient culture; by teaching me how to deal with (and solve) difficult situations; and by improving my business communication skills. The projects completed in India as part of the GMI showed me where my passions pertaining to work lied, which differed a bit from the role I was hired into. Reaching out to the network that Sapient introduced me to, I was able to speak with various directors and decide on a career path that was beneficial to me and Sapient. This conversation sparked my on the job training to be in user experience design. Immediately, I was thrown into a real project. I have learned so much on the job, such as XAML, rapid prototyping techniques and Adobe Fireworks starting the very week I returned from India. Your Passions Outside of Work and Their Connection to Your Career I m the kind of person who likes to keep work at work. However, since joining Sapient Global Markets, there hasn t been a stark distinction between work and non-work. In my spare time, I like to play around with design, numbers, new technologies and horses. And I absolutely love to travel. Although I haven t yet found a way to spark an equestrian outing, the majority of my interests sync with what I do every day. It s nice to be able to learn something simply because I m interested in it and then apply it directly to my job

10 Meet some of our campus hires Paul Gibson London, UK Associate, Business Consulting, joined May 2011 Life Before Sapient Global Markets I achieved a Masters with Distinction in International Relations at King s College London in 2011 and spent the winter as a ski instructor in Lech, Austria before joining Sapient Global Markets in May How You Decided to Join Sapient Global Markets I joined partly because I wanted to specialise in Capital Markets after becoming interested in international trade during my studies, but the main reason I joined is because I was very impressed by the quality of some of the London-based managers and wanted to develop those relationships. The Impact of the Global Markets Institute (GMI) and Learning on the Job During Your First Year at Sapient The Global Markets Institute provided a broad view of Sapient s business by working on different mock projects, talking with senior people working in different practices and having the opportunity to learn about the Capital Markets industry from trained Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) professionals. Following the GMI, I went straight onto a high-profile project working as a business analyst on the Transparency Programme which aims to establish an operational, cross asset class market infrastructure to meet global OTC Derivative regulatory requirements for transparency for all market participants. The highlight of the project has to be the chance to get involved in workshops with the world s most powerful investment banks to create a plan for the transformation of all OTC Derivatives I was quickly facilitating working groups across the industry and putting some of the practical knowledge I have gained at the GMI into practice. products. It was exactly the exciting and challenging start to my career I was looking for, and it gave me the opportunity to put what I had learned at the GMI into practice and see how the Investment Banking Industry functioned from very different perspectives. The combination of classroom learning and on-the-job training provided an excellent foundation for launching a career in Capital Markets consulting as I was able to find out what key skills and knowledge are needed to be a top business consultant and develop a structured growth plan to achieve my ambitions. Your Passions Outside of Work and Their Connection with Your Career Outside of work, I m passionate about sports. From football to tennis to cycling, I can t get enough of playing and watching sports. I am in awe of those professional sportsmen and women who are so dedicated and skilled at what they do that they can seemingly achieve anything they wish in their chosen discipline. I know that their capabilities are not about luck alone these people have been cultivating talent with sheer hard work since they were kids. This, for me, is especially inspiring as I strive to serve my clients as best I can and inspire the Capital Markets industry with innovative thinking and commitment. The dedication and skills of professional sportsmen and women drive and inspire me towards working to transform and inspire my clients
