To create, organize, and direct an approach to achieve strategic and measurable community impact and systems-change. Develop, organize, and coordinate an effective system of community planning, resource investment, and partner/community relations to ensure a dynamic response to changing community conditions in the Hampton Roads area. Create and promote awareness of and support for UWVP s community impact and grantmaking work. Support UWVP s commitment to excellent customer service by facilitating communication, hands on agency capacity building and relationshipbuilding with community partners and diverse key stakeholders (local organizations, businesses, and individuals). Organizational Leadership Participates as a member of the Senior Management Team to provide a united, visible, and strong leadership presence across the organization to help instill new thinking, focus and prioritize efforts, and operationalize the organization s strategic plan. Assists the President/CEO and Senior Management Team in promoting the long-range plans and goals of the organization to the community. Provides assistance to the CEO in staffing special committees and in the administration of functions that enable the organization to meet its commitments to the community. Manages and monitors budgets, data analysis, grant compliance and other financial oversight. Page 1 of 6

2 Community Impact Successfully creates, implements and evaluates UWVP's community impact work and ensuresit reflects UWVP's goals of inclusion and equity. Develops and builds relationships between UWVP and other human service organizations, government agencies, healthcare providers, schools, community colleges, nonprofit agencies, businesses, churches and diverse community organizations. Serves as a servant leader to United Way Agencies by building capacity through board development marketing and resource development activities. Oversees grant development and other non-workplace resource development activities related to community impact Works with UWVP staff to ensure maximum understanding and use of allocations and agency information. Develops and administers systems, formats and procedures for allocation of funds to agencies and programs within the policy guidelines approved by the Board of Directors and President/CEO. Effectively explains UWVP s community impact work in a style that s easy to understand. Administers UWVP policies with respect to participating agencies through regular contact and consultation Provides technical guidance and assistance to staff, agency representatives and volunteers with regard to policies, management, program development and financial administration for United Way special allocations and other appropriate areas Assists human service agencies in accessing community resources other than those from UWVP in order to ensure quality performance and financial support. Communicates impact through community presentations, social media, and written reports. Acquire and Utilize Knowledge Updates skills regularly to enhance knowledge of community need and resources as well as knowledge of financial and operations management. Maintains knowledge of current and evolving financial management, operations and community investment trends, as well as economic, political, technical, and general trends that may impact community need and resources to respond. Acquires knowledge of United Way Worldwide system and uses to further local work. Staff Leadership Coordinates community needs assessment research for UWVP as a collaborative effort. Selects, guides, motivates, and participates in the training, professional development, and evaluation of direct reports Provides goal-setting, visioning, leadership, and strategic direction for Finance, Administration and Community Impact staff Directs and manages Administration and Community Impact staff activities. Ensures that team members are invested in team activities and decisions and that the team works together to achieve organizational goals. Responsible for accurate and timely completion and/or approval of organizational documents, including but not limited to performance reviews, professional development plans, goals and objectives, timesheets, expense and travel reimbursements, credit card reports, requisitions, and ongoing documentation of performance accomplishments and areas requiring improvement. 3 Volunteer Leadership Assumes primary staff responsibility for Community Impact Cabinet meetings, overseeing the activities of the committee, and provides expertise to volunteers. Provides visioning, leadership, and strategic direction for Community Impact Committee volunteers. Works directly with the staff leadership, Board, and Campaign Cabinet in the identification and recruitment of volunteers. Ensures a system of continuity of volunteer leadership. Education, Training, and Previous Work Experience Technical Knowledge: Undergraduate required with a Master s Degree preferred in Business or Public Administration, Public Policy, or Social Work, or equivalent experience. Preferred experience as CEO or Executive Director of a human service agency: Minimum of 10 years related work experience in the human services field with leadership experience in community organization, program development, administration and fiscal oversight. Volunteer management. Understanding of program outcomes and logic models Proficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook. Proficiency with using the internet for research purposes Ability to learn and use internal database Demonstrated competence with financial systems, research, program development and evaluation, community planning and resource development Valid driver s license, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation required Possess strong leadership, negotiation, communication, coaching, problem solving, project management, and analytical skills Page 5 of 6

6 Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors Knowledge of Microsoft Office Possess thorough knowledge of financial management and reporting, computerized information systems, budget resource and management, and supervisory techniques Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.
