8 The legal framework of compensation The legal framework is based on equality principle. The Universal Declaration on Human Rights recognizes the right to equal pay for equal work and to just and favourable remuneration ensuring for the worker and the worker's family am existence worthy of human dignity. 9 Equity theory The Equity theory (Adams 1963) Employees compare their contributions to their outcomes The ratio outcomes/contributions is compared to the perceived inputs and outcomes of other employees Unequal balances lead people to feel distressed: overpaid worker will feel guilty while underpaid worker will feel angry These unpleasant emotions leads to effort to restore equity IPW Ethics and HRM - Anne Sachet-Milliat - ISC Paris 9
