If you are serious about your personal and professional development and wishing to progress in HR it is important to recognise that this requires you to invest your time in studying if you want to be successful. This programme requires you to commit time outside of classes to meet in your learning set, to engage in reading, to undertake skills development activities and work on your assignments. It is difficult to put a time on it as it depends on the individual, their ability and aspirations, but it is important that you have time in your life to dedicate to study. We would say aim for 3 to 6 hours a week in addition to the class attendance. At times it may be less, at other times more. 25 Why are there no exams? The assessment is designed to enable you to learn as you progress through the programme and to enable the tutors to verify what you have learnt. Assessment activities include applied assignments in the workplace, case studies and HR skills development activities linked to the learning outcomes for the programme. The assessment is validated by the CIPD and External Verifier. 26 What flexibility is there if I am unable to complete an assignment on time for a justifiable reason? To be fair to all students there is a rigorous approach to the submission of assessed work which must be completed and handed in on specified dates. However, we recognise that in unforeseen, exceptional circumstances you may not be able to submit the work by the published date. If this happens you should explain the circumstances to your tutor who will help you to agree when you can submit the work. 5
