1 Job Title: Finance Manager Division: BBC Children in Need Appeal Department: Operations and Finance Reporting to: Finance Controller Base: Salford Grade: Grade 7 Contract Type: Continuing THE AIMS OF THE ROLE To support the Finance Controller to ensure the provision of an effective finance function for the registered charity, BBC Children in Need, deputising where necessary. In particular ensure procedural control over the financial operations and ensure that the following areas of work run efficiently, effectively and in a timely manner: Manage the roles of the Finance Administrators to allow for the accurate, timely production of management accounts and reliance on the output of accounting information Ensure all transactions are accurate and accounted for in the relevant accounting period Manage the effective financial control of CIN accounting, processes and procedures Support the daily accounting for bank transactions and bank reconciliations Manage the financial administration of thanking our supporters and claiming Gift Aid Ensure accurate and timely payment of grants To provide accurate and timely information and advice to senior management teams within CIN To provide event planning and Appeal night support THE CONTEXT OF THE ROLE BBC Children in Need is the BBC s UK Charity. The charity supports projects working with disadvantaged children and young people in the UK and has the following strategic aims: To be a great grant maker To be a great story-teller To be a great fundraiser To be a great organisation Over the past 35 years, the Charity has raised over 776 million to help disadvantaged children and young people in the UK to be safe, happy and stable, and to reach their potential.

2 MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES Manage Team To ensure the Finance Administrators meet their responsibilities To provide support and assistance to members of team and share knowledge and experience To promote a positive attitude and lead by example to ensure continued high level of service To carry out regular appraisals, agree objectives and support the team in meeting those objectives To facilitate improvement in performance by addressing training and development needs Manage Finance Function To provide the Finance Controller with support as and when required on all accounting matters To ensure that all purchase invoices are accurate in terms of quantity and value and relate to goods received or services incurred and the correct accounting treatment has been applied To ensure that costs incurred have been authorised in accordance with procedure and payments for goods, services and grant awards are made in a timely manner. To manage the grant reconciliations process including accounting for write offs To support the processing of transactions in Children in Need Limited To ensure the accounting systems meet the needs of users To ensure correct treatment of VAT To ensure the efficient processing of refunds To manage the post appeal process including thanking our fundraisers and banking postal donations To ensure efficient administration of all bank mandates and authorising signatories Control, Processes and Procedures To document all existing processes and perform a LEAN review to attain best working practice To aid effective financial control by enforcing existing financial procedures and implementing new controls to ensure compliance with best practice across the charity To ensure financial control is implemented prior to committing the charity to costs and ensure costs are managed in line with expectation Reporting To provide accounting information which can be relied upon by auditing the completeness of financial transactions Financial Compliance To assist with all statutory and corporate financial returns for LTD To assist with the statutory and corporate financial returns for CIN. To control Gift Aid collection and ensure appropriate audit records required To maintain the audit trail for all month end routines and to liaise with external and internal auditors as required Working with People

3 To develop and maintain good working relationships with all key members of CIN both internal and external To support, provide timely advice and assistance to the Finance Controller and Senior Leaders on financial matters To build and maintain relationships with external contacts including banks, investors and 3 rd party system providers Other Duties To appraise and offer suggestions to improve services To escalate issues as appropriate To contribute to improving the quality of own work and the work of others To facilitate improvement in own performance and own professional and career development by identifying and meeting own training and development needs and in identifying future career opportunities with the support of the Financial controller To support collaboration between team members for example through sharing information, collaborating on decision making, and taking mutual responsibility for the work of the team To promote and support the charities values and behaviours and promote the charities culture

4 PERSON SPECIFICATION : To be successful a candidate must show that he/she has all of these attributes. Desirable: These attributes are desirable and candidates showing that they have these attributes will be at an advantage. Experience Experience of managing a small finance team Regular use of financial systems and databases Experience of working in a pressurised environment with high volumes of work Knowledge Experience of financial processing including how to prioritise work effectively Desirable Some knowledge of the voluntary sector would be an advantage Skills & Attributes Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel Able to produce clear and well written letters in plain English Able to listen and deal with internal and external finance queries Proficient at following instructions and carrying out routine and complex tasks accurately, systematically and reliably Accuracy and attention to detail Willing, quick to pick up new things and able to learn from mistakes The ability to solve problems in a logical manner Desirable Technical ability AAT or CIMA/ACA/ACCA (part-qualified considered) Knowledge of Access Dimensions
