1 JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: RESPONSIBLE TO: RESPONSIBLE FOR: OBJECTIVE: SHOP MANAGER AREA MANAGER DEPUTY MANAGER AND VOLUNTEERS To manage all charity shop activities in order to achieve set targets and maximise sales and maintain standards. MAIN DUTIES 1. To maintain the weekly rota and to update ensuring optimum cover. 2. To recruit, interview and train new Volunteers to agreed procedures. 3. To manage the shop team by providing the direction, on going training and motivation necessary to secure their competence and commitment. 4. To assist in the recruitment and training of Deputy Managers. 5. To organise the further processing of all stock deliveries to the required standards and agreed amounts for the shop. 6. To price all hanging items going on the shop floor. 7. To maintain the charity s stock quality standards and to follow the stock pricing guidelines. 8. To ensure stock rotation criteria are met. 2 9. To handle the control, security and re-ordering of all bought in merchandise. 10. To drive sales forward by efficient processing of donations, optimum pricing and good merchandising of the product in the shop. 11. To maximise shop sales to meet targets set and agreed for the shop. 12. To maintain high standards of presentation and display by merchandising and housekeeping to agreed standards. 13. To ensure standards of cleanliness and order are maintained throughout the shop, the processing area and the storage area and at the rear of the premises. 14. To have a working understanding of the profitability of the shop and controllable costs. 15. To control direct shop expenses through effective cost control. 16. To ensure that the shop is open during set trading hours. 17. To implement the highest standards of customer care and service at all times. 18. To monitor and check the security of stock and cash on the premises and report any shortfalls to the Area Manager. 19. To ensure the satisfactory completion of the daily till audit and that all monies are deposited, at the post office/bank. 20. To attend all meetings and training sessions as required by the Area Manager. 21. To be available to work on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. 22. To be available to work in other Acorns Children's Hospice Shops within the required trading day. 23. To actively support the Equal Opportunities Policy of Acorns Children s Hospice Trust and Trading. 24. Actively support good communication practices within your work and promote and maintain good teamwork. 25. Actively participate in an annual Individual Performance Review. July 2013 Page 2 of 5

3 26. Actively participate in training and development to further enhance your role within Acorns. 27. To promote a coaching culture within Acorns and provide coaching expertise as a resource across the organisation. 28. Be aware of and comply with the rules relating to your employment as detailed in the staff handbook and Retail Operations Manual. 29. Be aware of and comply with the Health & Safety regulations of Acorns Children's Hospice Trust and Trading. 30. Be aware of and comply with the Fire Regulations within any Acorns building. 31. 4 Qualifications Experience Skills/Abilities Other PERSON SPECIFICATION SHOP MANAGER ESSENTIAL Good standard of general education GCSE English & Maths or equivalent Worked within retail sales, ideally fashion Have experience in managing/coaching Customer service focus Good communication skills Diplomacy Proven management skills Ability to motivate and delegate Numerate/literate including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook Strong organisational and planning skills A Team Player Work 3 out of 4 Saturdays Work on Sundays and Bank Holidays as required Be flexible to cover other shops as and when required Ability and willingness to undergo training DESIRED Experience in charity shop retailing Experience of working with volunteers Experience in dealing with the public Understanding of stock management Understanding of P&L Accounts Understanding of budgets Creative Aware of standards and expectations within a shop environment Car driver Administration skills Report writing Commercially Aware July 2013 Page 4 of 5

5 TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT POSITION: Shop Manager REPORTING TO: Area Manager LOCATION: All Shops SALARY: dependent on shop salary banding NOTICE: 4 weeks HOURS: 37.5 hours 5 days per week including Saturdays 09:00 am to 17:30 pm, with 1 hour lunch each day. Sunday and Bank Holiday working will be required HOLIDAYS: 23 days + public holidays, rising to 27 after 3 years service PENSION: Company will contribute 7.5% LIFE ASSURANCE: 2 x salary life assurance scheme July 2013 Page 5 of 5
