2 Dear Applicant Communications Manager Thank you for showing an interest in working for Emmaus UK. We are looking for a high performing Communications Manager to join our team in Birmingham. You will have strong communications skills, lots of ideas and the ability to inspire and motivate a team. You ll have responsibility for managing a team of regionally based regional communications officers, as well as a national communications officer and a communications and fundraising assistant. A major part of the strategic plan for Emmaus in the UK is increasing our profile as a charity and working to make changes that will benefit people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion. We re looking for someone to help us to do that, making the most of the potential we know Emmaus has. Emmaus is a fantastic organisation, helping formerly homeless people to re-gain lost self-esteem by providing them with a stable home and meaningful work in one of our social enterprises. 3 Emmaus UK Job Description Job title: Reports to: Direct reports: Location: Communications Manager Head of Communications and Fundraising Communications Officer, Regional Communications Officers, Communications and Fundraising Assistant Birmingham. with regular travel across the UK Date: September 2017 Overall Purpose of the Job Manage the Emmaus communications team to maximise both internal and external communications, in order to raise the profile of Emmaus in the UK. Principal Accountabilities Manage a team of communications officers to maximise all areas of marketing and communications at Emmaus. Develop and review communications plans to ensure they maximise the potential of both internal and external communications channels and meet organisational objectives. Work with Emmaus UK s Head of Communications and Fundraising to ensure communications work supports the delivery of the Emmaus communications, fundraising and campaigns strategies. Develop toolkits and advice that can be used by federation members and members of the team to deliver their own communications work. Support members to make the most of the Emmaus visual identity, promoting and protecting the Emmaus brand. Support the Emmaus UK fundraising team by developing media plans to complement their fundraising work. Work with the Emmaus UK Policy and Research Manager to maximise opportunities to publicise Emmaus s campaigns and get involved in national debates. Build relationships with key stakeholders and influencers in order to promote Emmaus s work. 3

4 Work with external suppliers (designers, web developers etc) to commission and manage communications projects and develop promotional collateral. Manage and update online resources including a web2print system, intranet and external website Coordinate the annual Emmaus Assembly event General Other duties as outlined below: To participate in team meetings, team review days and other meetings as agreed with the Head of Communications and Fundraising. To adhere to the Equal Opportunities Policy and Health and Safety Policy in all aspects of the work. To adhere to the Emmaus Code of Conduct. To attend and contribute to regular 1:1s with the designated line manager. To attend and contribute in the appraisal processes. To carry out any other duties commensurate with the post. To understand and work in accordance with the principles of Emmaus International and uphold its values and ethos. Person Specification Technical skills, Knowledge and Experience Essential: At least two years experience in public relations and marketing, with experience in a management role Experience of developing communications plans to meet client or organisational objectives Experience of managing a team and maximising individual personal development Proven experience of utilising various media channels to enhance brand and profile Experience of developing and using internal communications tools to deliver agreed goals Strong writing skills and experience of writing for a number of different audiences 4

5 Experience of building strong relationships and using these to influence people at all levels Ability to identify and manage own priorities as well as those of their team, including conflicting schedule demands IT skills, including Microsoft Word, basic Excel, internet, websites, CMS systems and Desirable: Knowledge regarding the charity sector and homelessness Qualifications, Education and Training Essential: Degree educated, or equivalent experience Desirable: Relevant professional qualification Personal Characteristics Essential: Recognises, responds and adapts appropriately to changes Has an understanding of and belief in equality Effective communication skills - including written, verbal, listening skills Enthusiastic with a can do attitude Innovative - able to proactively identify opportunities Has the ability to interpret complex situations/problems and identify solutions which meet organisational needs Has an understanding and empathy in the work of Emmaus, and ability to uphold Emmaus s values Willing to travel and work occasional unsocial hours 5

6 Terms and Conditions of Employment Working Hours full time hours are 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, part time hours will be part thereof.
