2 Dear Candidate Introduction Thank you for expressing an interest in finding out more about Dorset Studio School. We have put this pack together to explain more about who we are and who we re looking for to join us! As a new organisation we are in the unique position of starting things from scratch: a golden opportunity for ensuring we have the right people doing the right things from the word go. What we are Dorset Studio School is a brand new school which opened close to Dorchester in September 2014 for year olds. It is located within the campus of our co-sponsor Kingston Maurward College. Our school is ambitious and aims to deliver learning in ways that promote workplace expectations and requirements. We see our students as young employees and expect them to behave in ways that show they are both work-ready and work-aware. We are passionate about removing barriers to learning through an innovative, flexible and stimulating curriculum. Our curriculum strongly reflects the interest and involvement of local employers, with our specialism of environment and land based sciences. Our teaching methods are not always conventional, adapting to the needs of our students and pushing the boundaries with the aid of technology and high quality professional development. Our expectations are high, ensuring we develop fulfilled and inspirational young people. Our aim is for students to make excellent progress, achieve good examination results, develop personally and progress to be outstanding employees in the community. 2

4 Job Description Post Title: Teaching Assistant behaviour - Dorset Studio School Salary: 15,882 FT Hours: 30 hours per week Status: Temporary to 31/08/14 mployed by: Dorset Studio School Trust Partner organisations: The Thomas Hardye School Kingston Maurward College Teaching Assistant Main responsibilities and duties stablish constructive relationships with parents/carers exchanging information, facilitating support for their child s attendance, behaviour and learning Reward good behaviour and challenge/take action on poor behaviour Support teaching / support staff in maintaining discipline & following up incidents Develop a clear understanding of the specific needs of identified AL/SN pupils Provide support to AL/SND pupils learning in the most effective way both in nglish and their home language where appropriate. ncourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively, ensuring all pupils are engaged in activities To work closely with the teacher to assist in the planning, development and delivery of all area of the curriculum for identified AL/SN pupils. In the short term unplanned absence of the teacher, to cover all pre prepared activities to provide continuity for pupils. To maintain record and proved regular feedback about pupils to the teacher and/or SNCO in order to best track pupil progress Provide focused intervention with students as required NB: The aim of the job description is to indicate the general purpose and level of responsibility of the post. 5 general level of responsibility. Duties may be subject to periodic review by the Principal (in consultation with the post holder). 6 Teaching Assistant - Person Specification Requirements ssential Desirable ducational Qualifications/xperience A minimum of 3 GCSs (or equivalent), including Maths and nglish Grade C or above xperience of working with young people, particularly those who may have exhibit challenging behaviours Mentoring/coaching xperience NVQ level 2 or above for teaching assistants Knowledge Knowledge of SpLD and Disabilities Skills Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills ICT Literate Strong organisation skills Ability to meet deadlines and prioritise workload Attributes Good sense of humour Ability to communicate with staff/external bodes at all levels Ability to problem solve nthusiastic with ability to motivate Commitment to achieving excellence through continuous improvement Willingness and ability to tackle poor student performance ssential Criteria xcellent attendance record Prepared to work flexibly to meet work requirements Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children D D Terms and conditions Salary Pay date Probationary period Hours of work Contract of mployment Pension 15,882 FT Monthly in arrears on last working day. 6 Months. 30 hours per week The Contract of mployment will be based on the provisions of the Dorset Studio School Staff Contract. You will be automatically enrolled onto the Local Government Pension Scheme. Contribution rates vary between schemes. 6

One month Offer is subject to a satisfactory medical report, proof of eligibility to work in the UK, references satisfactory to the board, receipt of relevant certificates and qualifications, successful completion of probationary period, receipt of a satisfactory, enhanced DBS check. You are required to declare any interests that may conflict with your ability to perform your role with impartiality and the interests of the Studio School.
