Governance Advocacy Leaders in Northeast Ohio s business community are the foundation and driving force behind the work of the Greater Cleveland Partnership. Through their leadership, the GCP continues to operate as one of the largest, strongest and most unique Chambers of Commerce in the country. Members interested in getting engaged at the highest level can do so in the following ways. GCP Board of Directors Executive Committee Nominating Committee Finance Committee Audit Committee Air Service Demand Task Force When United Airlines made the decision to remove its Hub from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE), the GCP understood the importance of rallying the business community together to enhance air service at the airport in support of business growth within the region. The Air Service Demand Task Force serves as a resource for the development of a comprehensive strategy to inform, educate and advocate for the importance of investing in CLE and how its constituents can support existing carriers as well as advocating for the expansion of service at CLE. In addition, the Task Force works with staff to identify policy issues affecting CLE s ability to manage a cost-effective airport to support carrier expansion and opportunities to provide guidance on the business travelers needs at CLE. Representing the voice of the business community is a core priority for the GCP. Our Advocacy Team understands governmental and legislative processes and how the results can impact business. They also understand the importance of connecting the business community to elected officials and ensuring that the perspectives of the businesses in Greater Cleveland are well-represented. The GCP has many ways that members and their employees can get involved and engaged in the representation of the business community. 4 Middle Market Small Business The Greater Cleveland Partnership s Middle-Market Initiative provides resources and information to help create and sustain long-term success for Northeast Ohio s middle-market companies. We re also focused on sparking ideas and providing connections to support these companies growth strategies. While middlemarket members of the GCP have access to all events and other engagement opportunities, the GCP has a specific set of programs and initiatives designed for the middle-market segment. The engagement of middlemarket members in this work is critical to ensure the right topics and opportunities are presented and issues are discussed. Members can engage in and drive the Middle-Market Initiative in the following ways. Committees Middle-Market Committee Events and Programs Middle-Market Forums BizConCLE Development and Investment The GCP and its affiliates invest in catalytic projects and key business initiatives throughout the region. Leadership and engagement from the business community in these initiatives play a key role in identifying the right types of projects for the region. There are several ways GCP members and their employees can become involved. Cleveland Development Advisors (CDA) Board of Directors CDA Investment Review Committee CDA Governance and Nominating Committee CDA Compliance, Audit and Finance Committee CDA Community Advisory Committee Cleveland International Fund Board of Directors Economic Growth Foundation Board of Directors COSE, the Council of Smaller Enterprises, is committed to empowering small business success by providing programs, services, events, and resources that support small business owners, their businesses and their employees. The involvement of small business members is critical to the planning of programs and events and development of resources designed to support the small business community. While small business members are engaged throughout the organization, they can help drive COSE s agenda in the following ways. We leverage the involvement of members in the development, evaluation and operations of products in our portfolio of offerings. 5 Education and Workforce Diversity & Inclusion A strong workforce means a strong economy. The GCP is focused on education and workforce development through several initiatives from the establishment of a high-performing Cleveland school system to assisting employers by strengthening the talent pipeline and providing the skilled workers they need. We engage our members to learn more about their workforce needs as well as those of the broader business community so we can work collaboratively to create solutions to their challenges. It is critical that the business community leads these efforts to ensure our community s workforce development initiatives are demand-driven and accurately monitor the evolving demands of skills needed for a robust workforce. GCP members can get involved in workforce development initiatives that impact small, middle-market and large companies, diverse populations and specific industries such as IT. Opportunities include: Pathway Partners: College & Career Readiness True2U (CMSD 8 th grade) Mentoring Hosting an out-of-school experience (company site visit) Academies of Cleveland (CMSD high school) Business panels Business roundtables Exhibiting at a Ninth Grade Career Experience Fair Hosting teacher externships Advisory boards & industry consortia GCP Internship Central Provide high school and college level internship opportunities Task Team/Advisory Group The Commission on Economic Inclusion is the Greater Cleveland Partnership s program focused on helping Northeast Ohio employers connect the benefits of diversity and inclusion with their bottom line. It also works to ensure that minorities more fully participate in the benefits of, and contribute to, economic development in our region. GCP members and their employees can get engaged in the work of the Commission in a number of different ways. 6 Industry-Specific Initiatives While the GCP is focused on the business community as a whole, we recognize the need to develop specific programs and initiatives for key industries in the region. The opportunities below are designed for specific industries. OHTec Through OHTec, tech companies come together to focus exclusively on their growth and talent issues. Their involvement in governance and planning ensures that OHTec is responsive to their needs, interests and perspectives. OHTec also raises the profile of Ohio s technology industry among legislators and elected officials. Here are several opportunities for involvement: Governance, Events and Program Planning Board of Directors CIO Symposium Planning Committee Best of Tech Planning Committee CIO of the Year Judging Committee Events and Programs CIO Symposium Networking and Education Events Tech Week Manufacturing Northeast Ohio s manufacturing industry has and continues to play a critical role in our economy. The GCP works in partnership with other organizations to better understand the manufacturing sector and ensure that the needs of these businesses are met. Here is an opportunity for GCP members in the manufacturing industry to get engaged: Manufacturing Council Workplace Safety The Northeast Ohio Safety Council understands the importance of safety within the workplace and is dedicated to ensuring that each meeting serves as a tool to educate members on the various ways to create and maintain a safe working environment. It is our belief that education and knowledge are the primary tools on the forefront of accident and injury prevention. The Safety Council is focused on providing employers in Northeast Ohio with education and resources in order to enable the creation and maintenance of safe workplaces throughout the region. Here are opportunities for involvement: Northeast Ohio Safety Council Steering Committee Workers Comp, Wellness & Safety Seminar Additional Engagement Opportunities The GCP offers other engagement opportunities for member companies and their employees to connect with their peers, learn more about the work of the GCP and related development initiatives in Cleveland, and access resources to support their strategic objectives.
