I chose this because I enjoyed business in school and I felt it was a broad degree which would give me more options when I graduated. I majored in Marketing and did a 6 months work placement with Nestle in London. I worked part-time all through College, I had a weekend job in a restaurant which was very challenging trying to juggle work with studying. I was a Receptionist in 4* Hotel last summer and learned a lot about caring for the guests and meeting their needs. During first year here in UCC I was a Student Help in the Food Science Department, doing photocopying, filing and answering the phone. I was a member of the Dramat Society in College and had minor parts in 2 plays. I was also Assistant Manager for the production of The Plough and the Stars. I was also a member of the Commerce Society and was PR Officer in I helped to organise a charity event and raised 5,000 for Children in Need and the Comm Ball which was a great success. In this role I also invited speakers to UCC and liaised with academics and staff in UCC. Using the STAR Format Tell me about a Project you were involved in Situation: Describe the situation or problem. Task: Describe the task that the situation required. Action: Describe the action you took to complete the task successfully and any obstacles overcame. Results: Highlight outcomes achieved. Situation: My final year project was 50% of my marketing module. There were 4 of us in the group, 2 from Food Business and 2 from Commerce. Task: To produce and market an innovative food product. The product we decided on was a long life health bread. Action: The work was divided in 4. The 2 Fd Bs students made the new product and we marketed it. My job was to do the market research and design branding for the product. I randomly surveyed people in supermarkets, met supermarket managers and dieticians. I designed the logo and packaging and a local printer did the wrapping paper. Result: There was an evening event in the Food Science Dept. Where all the new products were showcased. Over 300 attended and included people from the food and drinks industry. We were highly commended and got 3 rd place. It resulted in an overall 1H. Competency Based Questions Lisa s Interview, No 15.
