Giving Clear Directions As we have all witnessed, it is not easy giving clear directions (Trust Walk). Remember that when you are giving directions you should utilize the 4 ABC s s of giving clear directions: 1. Always Be Clear Use words that leave no room for interpretation or confusion. Present your ideas in an organized and logical manner. Go slow, think, stress key words and eliminate unnecessary words and steps, and watch for NV signs of confusion.

The 4 ABC s s of Clear Directions 2. Always Be Complete Do not leave out important information. 3. Always Be Concise Be brief and to the point. Don t t get caught rambling on about other topics that have nothing to do with the subject at hand. 4. Always Be Considerate Understand the other persons situation or point of view.

Appropriate Dress In 1988, John Molloy wrote a book titled Dress for Success which greatly influenced the attire of the people in the business world. It dealt mostly with men in White Collar jobs. Things have changed of course, but dress is still very important. Think of these things when considering what to wear: (Next Slide!)

Appropriate Dress 1) Adapt to the occasion Match what you wear to the occasion and the nature of your work. Try to be as dressed up as those around you. 2) Respect the Expectations of your Employer Some companies have casual days on Friday, but every other day there are standards to follow. Casual means no suit, tie, or jacket. It does not mean jeans, sneakers, and a T-Shirt. T Understand what the boss wants.

Appropriate Dress 3) Maintain professionalism in your choice of clothing You can have your own style, but use good judgment. Your clothes should not offend or distract those around you. Also, be neat and well groomed.

Respecting Differences It has become more obvious over the years that America is the most diverse nation in the world. Because of that, we all have differences that we must cope with. In a working environment, all that should matter are the different factors that men, women, minorities, older workers, and immigrants bring that make a company successful.

Diversity Many companies have adopted Diversity Training to help others integrate their ideas with one another. Diversity Valuing potential, showing respect, and working together to achieve growth and success. Those who promote diversity tear down the walls of hate and discrimination.

Diversity Promoting Diversity: Here are some suggestions that will help you promote diversity. 1) Be Open Minded This is the first step to understanding people and their issues. You have to look at a problem from all sides and angles to ensure that all possibilities are out in the open. This will help you establish positive relationships with others professionally and socially.

Diversity 2) Be Tolerant Having tolerance means possessing the ability to recognize and respect the rights, practices, and opinions of others, even if you disagree with them. It is a sad truth that most people are intolerant of anything that is different. This is what typically leads to discrimination. The more tolerant we are, the easier it is to communicate with one another.

Diversity 3) Be Empathetic Again, empathy means putting yourself in someone else's shoes. Ask yourself, How will my words and actions affect this person?
