3 Why do Strategic Planning? Requirement of Middle States nature and quality of planning are among basic indicators of institutional strength Strategic Planning helps an institution to manage effectively, maintain fiscal control, improve services and processes, allocate resources effectively Strategic Planning should be a disciplined, coordinated, systematic, and sustained effort An institution must remain flexible enough to respond to the dynamic environment in which it exists

Step 1: Analysis of Internal or External Scans Examine such things as: Current Priorities/Directions Trend Data Enrollment Projections Resources and Funding Options Employer Needs and Expectations Four-Year Institution Expectations Economic Climate Competition
