1 POSITION DESCRIPTION AUDIT MANAGER Purpose The Audit Manager is primarily responsible for ensuring that: client assignments and projects are managed to a high standard and in an efficient manner utilising the resources available; a positive relationship with clients and fellow team members is developed and maintained; and they support the Director they report to in achieving goals for their immediate team and office Reports to Key Success Factors / Key Performance Indicators Audit Director Demonstrate a high level of technical proficiency in the completion of required responsibilities and support other team members through this technical knowledge Demonstrate a can-do attitude with a willingness to attempt difficult tasks and sort out issues relevant to the task, fellow team members and/or clients High level of analytical reasoning and professional judgment Demonstrate a thorough understanding of Boyce services, systems and processes, embrace and contribute to Boyce Culture and actively participate in firm initiatives and activities Display a high level of written and oral communication skills with an ability to communicate using a variety of mediums Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills to relate to clients and colleagues Work well in a team environment with a willingness to lead, coach and support the Position Description Audit Manager 1

2 team in a positive manner Display a level of organisational and planning skills that ensures that (with the support of your Director) workflow in the team is planned, coordinated and managed given resources available Achieve monthly personal and team chargeable hours budgets and write-offs within the BCA standard Consider and manage risks to the firm arising from audit assignments Undertake duties in a timely manner to meet deadlines and exceed client expectations Be proficient in the use of audit related software packages and Microsoft Office applications Take responsibility (to your level of confidence and ability) for responding to clients direct needs including relationship matters and fee inquiries (and dealing with authorities / regulators regarding client matters) Demonstrate a practical understanding of the basic business fundamentals that drive successful business success Demonstrate that you are a positive role model to others through the way that you conduct yourself in your day-to-day duties Make a positive contribution to the home office management team through generally assisting with the management responsibilities of the office (particularly when Directors not available) Responsibilities General day-to-day duties In consultation with the Director, develop and be accountable for the annual work flow of your immediate team to meet client expectations (including the allocation of team members to clients and determining Position Description Audit Manager 2

3 when work for each client will be undertaken). Monitor and manage this on an ongoing basis through weekly team meetings Undertake the preparation of audit assignments Ensure all audits are completed in line with all relevant requirements Prepare appropriate audit and financial reports in accordance with the legislation and firm standards Identify and prepare management letters in accordance with auditing standards and firm standards Proactively identify disclosures and discuss these with the Director Ensure that audit software i.e. Caseware is appropriately used and train others in its use Undertake special projects and ad hoc assignments as required Undertake all tasks adhering to Boyce Standards and the Boyce Quality Control Manual Take responsibility for managing the team s WIP with the Director. Provide direction for team members to prepare bills, reviewing and posting bills for clients with direct responsibility (i.e. other than those requiring Director review) Keep up to date in technical skills through on the job and formal learning channels Develop and strengthen long term relationships with clients, colleagues and external stakeholders Management Assist individual team members to achieve expected job turnaround targets and objective performance indicators (i.e. hours Position Description Audit Manager 3

4 targets and write-offs) Advise, coach and support team members including provision of regular feedback and recognition maintaining high levels of team member engagement Support the Directors in developing new initiatives to increase retention, meeting resourcing needs, utilisation and people development Share and transfer knowledge with the team while ensuring that team members undertake all tasks in accordance with agreed systems and processes, Boyce Standards and the Boyce Quality Control Manual Coordinate the audit team when off-site to ensure that resources are fully utilised Client Develop strong professional relationships with tax, legal and regulatory authorities. Seek to gain knowledge of client businesses, identifying client needs / opportunities to provide additional value added services Act as a key contact for the client between the team and Director, responding to client needs and keeping the Director informed of all relevant client matters Manage multiple client commitments and prioritise workflow so as to meet deadlines and exceed client expectations Be proactive in relation to client matters and issues Personal Prepare and present in-house learning and development sessions in your area of specialisation Qualifications / Skills / Tertiary qualifications in Commerce or Position Description Audit Manager 4

5 Experience / Personal Attributes Business with 5+years audit experience with managing small and medium sized audits CA or CPA post graduate qualifications (or near completion) Commitment to ongoing learning and development Previous experience which demonstrates the ability and discipline to adopt Boyce standards, systems and processes Demonstrated competency in utilising relevant audit software packages i.e Caseware or equivalent and Microsoft Office applications Strong attention to detail and an eye for accuracy Ability to identify risks and resolve problems Team player with a can do attitude Proven ability to mentor, coach and train other team members Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with an empathy for other team members and clients, and external stakeholders Strong communication and presentation skills Strong organisational skills with a focus on tasks and deadlines Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills to resolve issues Position Description Audit Manager 5
