Competition Q23 Q24 Q25 Q26 Q27 Does your church have other programming that takes place at the same time as your primary student ministry gathering? In other words, do potential volunteers have to decide between serving or attending something else like Sunday School or a class? (Don't include services) Do you have more than one weekly environment for the students in your ministry? This might be a mid-week program, Sunday night, small groups in homes, etc., and it may run year-round or seasonally. In your opinion, does your church have too many ministries overall? Does your church have just 1 worship service (during the primary gathering time - Sunday morning most likely)? In your opinion, does your ministry offer too many events? This would include everything outside of regular programming (retreats, camps, special events, etc.) Your Time Q28 How much of your job responsibilities are dedicated to leading your ministry? Some leaders are tasked with leading other ministries or areas of the church in addition to their primary role. This is not about things that are required of all staff. It's about whether or not you have additional roles/responsibilities. file:///c:/users/jenni/desktop/volunteer%20health%20assessment%20-%20student%20ministry.htm 5/10

60% or less 70% 80% 90% 100% Q29 How much time in a week do you spend on volunteer recruitment? Less than 1 hour/week 1 hour/week 2 hours/week 3 hours/week 4+ hours/week Support Q30 Q31 Is there a strategy in place to help new attenders step into volunteer roles as part of the assimilation process or as a part of getting involved? This might include a church orientation where they have an opportunity to sign up to serve or some other plan where new attenders, at a certain point, are invited to serve. Generally speaking, how do you feel volunteering is supported and encouraged overall in your church? 1- There is no support at all, so everything depends on ministry leaders It's highly supported with vision, finances, and clear plans to recruit volunteers Commitment Q32 How often do the majority of your volunteers serve? Most ministries have a mix of frequencies in which volunteers serve, but what is the most common for your ministry? This may not match your schedule, but please choose the equivalent. For instance, if most of your volunteers serve one month on and one month off, that's the equivalent of once every 2 weeks. Once/week Once every 2 weeks file:///c:/users/jenni/desktop/volunteer%20health%20assessment%20-%20student%20ministry.htm 6/10

Once every 3 weeks Once every 4 weeks Less than once/month Q33 Q34 What % of student ministry volunteers serve every week? (Try not to estimate it) Go through your volunteer teams to determine what percentage of them serve every week % 60-79% 40-59% 20-39% < 20% On a scale of 1-5, how would you grade the overall commitment of your current volunteers? 1-They're not committed at all. They serve out of obligation They love the ministry and take ownership of it completely Culture Q35 On a scale of 1-5, how would you grade your volunteer culture? 1-The culture is negative and toxic The culture is exciting and attractive Q36 Q37 Do you have values or specific language that is shared repeatedly to help create the culture you want?, we have values, and we talk about them all the time, we have values, but we probably don t talk about them enough We have some specific language, but we could clarify and use it more We have values and/or some key statements, but nobody knows them We do not have values or specific language On a scale of 1-5, how would you rate the level at which your volunteers embody the culture you want? 1-There is no set culture. Everyone does their own thing They live out the culture just as I do file:///c:/users/jenni/desktop/volunteer%20health%20assessment%20-%20student%20ministry.htm 7/10

Training Q38 On a scale of 1-5, how would you grade your volunteer onboarding strategy? 1-There is no strategy. It's random and ineffective Every volunteer is taken through intentional steps Q39 Q40 Q41 Q42 Q43 Do you provide role-specific training that focuses on the skills, talents, and gifts needed for each particular volunteer role? Do you have an apprenticing strategy, where new volunteers serve alongside experienced volunteers for a period of time to learn? Do you have an intentional, consistent strategy to train volunteers throughout the year? Are volunteers met with 1-on-1 for coaching and support from their leader? Do you have regular huddles or gatherings with volunteers before they serve to cast vision? Structure Q44 What is the leadership structure? file:///c:/users/jenni/desktop/volunteer%20health%20assessment%20-%20student%20ministry.htm 8/10

Staff directly lead all of the volunteers in student ministry We have a leadership structure that includes 2 levels (Staff lead leaders who lead volunteers) We have a leadership structure that includes 3 levels (Staff lead coaches/coordinators who lead leaders who lead volunteers) We have a structure that includes more than 3 levels Q45 If you have a leadership structure, how many coaches/coordinators/leaders do you have? Q46 How many volunteers do you lead directly, meaning no other leader is tasked with leading, serving, and caring for them? Less than Students Q47 Q48 Do middle school and/or high school students serve in volunteer roles in your church? If students do serve, how many serve in regular volunteer roles within the church (not just your ministry)? Q49 Q50 Do students serve in children's ministry? All students are invited to serve in children's ministry Only high school students are invited to serve in children's ministry Students do not serve in children's ministry If students do not serve in children's ministry, why? They have programming for them at the same time file:///c:/users/jenni/desktop/volunteer%20health%20assessment%20-%20student%20ministry.htm 9/10

We do not recruit/permit students to serve Q51 Do students serve on volunteer teams within their own ministry? All students are invited to serve within the student ministry Only high school students serve (in middle school or in their own ministry) Students do not serve in student ministry Thank you for taking this assessment. Nick will follow up over the next couple weeks. file:///c:/users/jenni/desktop/volunteer%20health%20assessment%20-%20student%20ministry.htm 10/10
