2 Background Leadership Continuity Committee (LCC) charged with Identifying future leaders. Challenges: LCC meets for 6 months Ready pool of candidates Identifying future leaders Needs Identified Year round succession planning Larger pipeline running through out the year Ownership of the process

3 Solution and Mission Create a Volunteer Engagement Team. Identify, develop, nurture and project future opportunities for Active Volunteers and Emerging Leaders in New York City SHRM.

4 Volunteer Opportunities Active Volunteers those interested in taking on on-going or one time responsibilities. Blogger, Event Registration, Committee Member i.e. Programs, Membership or Social Media. Emerging Leaders those interested in leadership roles. Committee or SIG Chairs/Co-Chairs, Board Directors or Executive Committee members.

5 Volunteer Engagement Team Framework Reports To: Leadership Continuity Committee Led By: President Elect(s) Team Members: 2 3 VP or Directors 2 3 Committee/SIG Members Term: One Year Meetings: First Year Bimonthly Future Years Quarterly

6 Team Responsibilities Champion succession planning throughout the year. Feed into the Leadership Continuity Committee ( LCC ) Initiate and follow up with membership Aspiration Survey. Regular outreach to SIG Chairs to ID high potentials. Develop/Maintain Volunteer Engagement page on the website. Conduct Volunteer Engagement Orientation. Annually review High Potential Identification responsibilities of SIG and Committee Chairs.

7 SIG and Committee Chair/Co-Chair Role Proactively engage with SIG/Committee members to find out their interests in getting involved. HOW? Understand the variety of chapter volunteer opportunities Active Volunteers and Emerging Leaders. Talk about chapter volunteer opportunities with your SIG/Committee members. Seek out & follow up with members to discuss their specific interests in volunteering. Communicate these names to the Volunteer Engagement Committee.

8 Volunteer Engagement Team Forecasted First-Year Objectives Update expectations of Board, SIG/Committee Chairs on identifying and developing high potentials. Host meeting 2x annually. Revise role descriptions to include new expectations. Develop the competencies for Emerging Leaders. Develop and maintain a tracking system as a resource for the Leadership Continuity Committee. Add volunteer information to membership orientation. Develop a Volunteer Engagement Orientation.

9 Volunteer Engagement Team Accomplished First-Year Objectives Developed competencies for Active Volunteers and Emerging Leaders Communicated expectations to Board, SIG & Committee Chairs/Co-Chairs, to help us identify/develop volunteers and high potentials Developed/maintained tracking system -- resource for Leadership Continuity Committee Developed/executed Volunteer interest survey Produced successful Volunteer Panel Presentation & Networking Event

10 Volunteer Engagement Team 2 nd Year Objectives Prepare quarterly volunteer needs list to distribute to Orientation Committee, Chairs/Co- Chairs and publish on website s Volunteer page Conduct quarterly Volunteer Engagement orientation meetings for new volunteers 1-2 Volunteer Networking Event Conduct workshop in early winter, for high potential volunteers poised to take on leadership role
