ISSUES FACING THE EC INDUSTRY Career Awareness and Image Development What incentives can be developed to entice more young workers into the industry and to retain those currently in the industry? What is the profile of the successful electrical worker and how can we find and recruit this type of person?

ISSUES FACING THE EC INDUSTRY Productivity Enhancement Are safe contractors more cost effective for Owners and Customers? How can we reduce 60% wasted man-hours by 50%? How can time & motion studies be developed for measurement of field tasks to determine and validate means, methods and efficiency expectations?

ISSUES FACING THE EC INDUSTRY Organizational Development Identify companies that have been managed by third generation or more owners, and identify key factors for longevity and success. What is the most effective method to reduce costs with the least amount of reduction in plan health coverage? In what ways can health care costs be controlled? Would a pre-hire physical exam or an essential function test be effective? What alternative language can be found to replace onerous contract clauses? Review the top 10 GC/CM contracts.

ISSUES FACING THE EC INDUSTRY New Business Sector Development What is the impact of a Design/Build project on office overhead? Is the market share of our outside line contractors increasing or decreasing? It has been suggested that the EC of the future is an Energy Contractor delivering, servicing, controlling and advising about the delivery of energy in different forms and technologies. Update previous research on energy shortages driving new markets and future trends.

ISSUES FACING THE EC INDUSTRY Technology Transfer How has communication and internet technology opened up our traditional markets and ways of doing business to new competition? How should a company be structured to compete with this new technology? What can be done to prefabricate or pre-assemble work to improve cost effectiveness and diminish risk?

The Education Center To help competitive companies become more knowledge-based, focusing on continual education and training for management and craft-workers To provide management education for today s electrical contractors and their managers, who need the expertise to steer companies through periods of rapid change

The Education Center Established in 1998 and launched by the Al and Margaret Wendt Trust, its programs complement the cutting-edge research gathered by the Research Center, and are implemented through the Management Education Institute (MEI) of NECA

The Wendt Scholarship Program Introduced by ELECTRI International Focused on disseminating Management Education Institute (MEI) seminars. Conceived to provide financial support for those qualified Chapters lacking financial means

Electrical Project Supervision Developed through grants from the Centers for Excellence Implemented though MEI Designed as three integrated components. Course topics include: Defining the supervisor's role Team building Verbal & written communication Performance & production management Safety Planning and scheduling Tool and material management Understanding cost.

Line Construction Foreman Program Similar in concept to the Electrical Project Supervision program Specifically designed for line construction foremen in supervisory role. Program focuses on the role of the foreman in the field Covers topics: defining the role of foreman, verbal and written communication labor relations Safety tool & material management contract management production and performance management

Integrated Building Systems (IBS) Project Supervision Also similar in nature to the EPS program, this course is customized for integrated building systems contractors. The objectives are to provide fundamental information vital to success for supervisors, with the theme throughout that knowledge and continued learning are the key to success, and to emphasize the extremely important role supervisors perform in the success of projects, and in the success of their companies.

The International Center The Center was established in December 2001, through the generosity of Richard and Darlene McBride. With the resources dedicated to the International Center, the Foundation commissions educational programs and research projects that have an impact upon the international development of the electrical industry.

Electrical Technology Institute (ETI) This Institute, as designed and initiated by the Foundation, offers educational programs for electricians and managers in Mexico, concentrating on US technologies and business practices. The International Center will provide significant marketing and administrative support to promote the Institute throughout Mexico and Latin America.
