3 OARs Project Goals To identify strategies to improve and reduce barriers to the effective use of our academic resources in order to move forward on the academic front and create efficiencies. To make recommendations and/or identify issues to be considered by appropriate academic and administrative bodies/individuals that will optimize the use of our academic resources. Three focus areas: Academic Synergies and Efficiencies (ASE) Rules, Regulations and Red Tape (3Rs) Strategic Enrolment Management (SEM) 3

6 OARs Leadership Committee Responsibilities Receives monthly updates on project status and activities of the project teams. Provides advice on overall project direction and discusses issues as they arise. Serves as a two-way forum for communication with the Project Management Committee and the stakeholder community in faculties/schools. 6

8 Project Management Committee Responsibilities Monitors the progress of the project. Serves as a forum for interaction and dialogue between the Project Teams. Identifies issues to be brought forward to the OARs Leadership Committee. Provides overall direction to the Project Manager. 8

9 ASE Project Team Objectives To conduct an environmental scan of programs and curricula to determine: the nature and extent of duplication in courses and programs, opportunities for interdisciplinary and inter-faculty cooperation/collaboration in core courses, and opportunities for greater sharing of resources. To identify ways of more fully integrating the teaching and research missions of the University. 9

11 3Rs Project Team Objectives To identify academic rules, regulations and other forms of red tape, the amelioration or abolition of which would: improve efficiency in the use of academic resources and/or; improve the quality of the student experience and/or; enhance the University s work environment. 11

13 SEM Project Team Objectives Identify key elements of an enrolment plan building on the strategic planning framework of the UM. Analyze current recruitment and retention strategies. Develop plan. Elements will include: enrolment targets; the mix of students; and our promise to students including the student experience inside and outside the classroom. Develop processes to monitor the effectiveness and progress of UM s recruitment and retention strategies. Determine a timeline for implementation of a strategic enrolment management plan for UM. 13

15 OARs : Current Status Project Initiation: Completed Secure Project Manager. Identify Chairs/Co-Chairs and team members for each of the three focus areas. Communication Monthly Provost Council / OARs Leadership Committee updates. Developing a Communication Plan to ensure all stakeholders of the OARs project are made aware of the progress and are given the opportunity to provide feedback. Website ( Resource Optimization ). Other mechanisms (Bulletin, Open Forum, etc.) Current Assessment: In progress The ASE Project Team met Oct. 7 the plan is to conduct an environmental scan within the next three months. The 3Rs Project Team met Oct 1 the plan is to identify issues & prioritize them. The SEM Project Team is established. 15
