THE ORGANIZATION SAIT The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) has become Calgary and Canada s innovative center for applied education and in October 2016 will celebrate the institution s 100 th anniversary. In the last century, SAIT has evolved from a single-building campus with 11 students and seven staff members to a global presence educating approximately 50,000 students every year. SAIT is built on passion shared by its students, faculty and staff to shape new worlds as leaders, entrepreneurs, and community builders. A SAIT education is designed to provide students with both practical experience and theoretical knowledge. SAIT s classrooms and unique labs provide hands-on learning while many programs offer practicums and integrate projects based in real-world industry needs. SAIT works closely with industry, government and other post-secondary institutions to provide job-ready grads who can fuel local, national and global economies. SAIT has cultivated local and global partnerships that allow its students to make connections beyond SAIT, beyond Calgary and even beyond Canada. Students in a variety of programs also can be part of important research happening on campus. Through practicum placement, capstone projects and as research assistants, students have opportunities to collaborate with industry partners and researchers in SAIT's Applied Research and Innovation Services. Today SAIT offers 84 day-time programs and 34 apprenticeship programs, Continuing Education programs and courses and Corporate Training offerings. Programs are delivered through eight academic schools: Business, Construction, the MacPhail School of Energy, Health and Public Safety, Hospitality and Tourism, Information and Communications Technologies, Manufacturing and Automation, and Transportation. Partners from business and industry serve on SAIT's program advisory committees to ensure students education meets industry s needs.
