1 Position Profile Position Location Reporting to Job family Wind Turbine Specialist Wellington Wind Engineering Manager Professional Leaders/Specialists Band Date October POSITION PURPOSE The purpose of this position is: Provide technical support, quality assurance, training and guidance to ensure the day to day operation and maintenance of Meridian Energy s Wind Farms is conducted in accordance with Meridian s strategy and industry best practice by ensuring high level workmanship, asset integrity and safety standards are maintained. 2. POSITION VALUE This role will enable Meridian to continue to develop it s internal capability, supporting the engineering team and the O&M team maintaining the assets in its wind portfolio 3. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES The key functional deliverables include but are not limited to: Providing technical turbine support to a high performing, motivated operations team that fits with Meridian s company culture. Assisting with turbine fault finding. Working with the Engineering Team and the Reliability Engineering Team to undertake root cause analysis and other product trials, modifications and developments Contribution to the establishment and management of operating procedures, engineering standards and company standards. Supporting the establishment and maintenance of a wind operational level O&M knowledge base that will support Meridian s quest to become a global reference company in renewable energy. Supervise major component work, including participation in the planning Support and participate in the delivery of a Wind O&M training and development programme that supports the development of the internal capability needed to meet present and future business needs including unplanned and emergency site events. 2 Oversight and monitoring, reporting and when required addressing issues associated with the achievement of agreed operational and commercial performance targets Creation and maintenance of mutually beneficial operational relationships with Wind OEMs O&M personnel Identify and support the O&M team develop the capability needed to achieve the objectives contained in the Annual Business and Maintenance Plans Provide specialist knowledge and experience to support a working environment where staff, contractors and visitors remain safe and healthy Contribution to the development of and adherence to an effective O&M risk management and compliance programme Support the commissioning and acceptance of new wind farms into the portfolio Participate in End of Warranty Inspections and detailed component inspections 4. QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES The qualifications, skills and experience required for this position include: [ Significant turbine experience as an engineer or technician (5+ years in the industry) Preferrably experience with the Siemens 2.3VS turbine platform Extensive mechanical or electrical experience related to the industry Proven ability to positively interact with international WTG OEMs and other manufacturers. Experience in Life-Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA), Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) and Condition Monitoring techniques The ability to demonstrate the application of specialist knowledge, technical expertise and skills within a maintenance environment including the supervision, training and development of staff Sound commercial skills and a value orientation Superior relationship management skills and safety focus Strong communication skills, including written and oral English Wind Turbine Specialist_MaP_ Sep 2011 Page 3
