1 OFFICER Leadership is an action, not a position DECA officers are expected to work as a team to establish goals for community service, competition and fundraising and lead chapter members to achieve those goals. To be successful in this role, DECA officers are expected to have certain qualifications and must be willing to commit the time, energy and enthusiasm required to be a successful DECA leader. Qualities of a Great Officer will: Work hard to provide leadership to activities and events Guide committee members through event planning Share ideas freely with general members, advisors, and other officers Make arrangements with work and personal life to attend all meetings and should be prompt to all meetings Represent the chapter in front of audiences including students teachers administrations and businesses Be enthusiastic and positive about our organization Demonstrate outstanding honesty and integrity Assist the chapter when needed Have initiative to exceed expectations Provide support for other students in their activities Be an outstanding leader that supports team members under all circumstances Have the courage to think outside the box KHS DECA Requirements are: Leadership skills or aspirations to become a leader Attend Officer Meetings every other week during SMART and chapter meetings monthly ONE CONCERN: Early graduation I would rather you are here all year round. Compete in District Competition Parent Approval Each officer has to spend at least one hour a week to DECA planning or activity Attend every chapter event and activity

2 Officer Positions PRESIDENT- Be poised, have good speaking and writing abilities Be able to manage conflict within the team Be a Role model Possibly meet over the summer Set up a yearly calendar over the summer of all activities to be done during the school year which includes the Program of Work Create monthly calendars for officers and DECA members in the beginning of each month Monitor all officers and make sure they are accurately fulfilling their duties Put together meeting agendas and get advisors approval Run meetings Supervise and represent chapter projects Oversee implementation of DECA week Meet with advisor at least twice a week to ensure all activities are running as planned Represent the chapter at special school events Attend all meetings or delegate the vice president to attend Determines the need for and calls all special chapter meeting Ensure all other officers are aware of changes and information that pertains to their particular department Responsible for the end of the year banquet and new officers initiation Approve all chapter activities and gain approval from advisor

3 VP OF COMPETITION- Begin planning ideas in the beginning of the year Assist the president with their duties Review agenda with president to ensure all topics are being covered Responsible for the end of the year banquet and new officers initiation Responsible for forming a committee to assist with competition Competition Duties Keep members updated on categories and requirements Responsible for organization and implementation of study sessions and materials needed for competitive events Maintain and organize binders of tests and role-plays for all competitors Create study packets for each level of competition Organize chapter events for competition Conduct competitive event training for at least one month before district competitions

4 VP OF PUBLIC RELATIONS- Public relations publicize our club and share our achievements with the community and school. Committees will be formed to achieve this goal. Duties include: Organize and lead a committee Work with president on monthly calendar to plan events Public Relations Duties involves: Create a DECA brochure for prospective members (Work with Mrs. Rhoden) Design activities for recruitment Plan and implement the membership campaign Plan member events for school year Plan an annual DECA BBQ Plan activities for general meetings. In charge of the activities for DECA Week Plan and implement Business Dress Day Make posters or get members to make posters for club Make PA announcements, Promote everything DECA does Submit articles about our club to newspapers, DECA magazines, newsletters, and website to inform everyone of our activities

5 VP OF COMMUNITY SERVICE- Community Service Duties involves: Plan and implement 1-2 Community Service Events Contact businesses within the community to check when help is needed and how many people is required to help Get the contact person s name & phone number Coordinate the dates with the president Create informational flyer to give members 2 weeks before the event Publicize it

6 VP OF COMMUNICATION- Record and keep minutes for each meeting All agendas and minutes should be organized in a binder for easy access Give communication reports at all meetings Has to be efficient on the computer Responsible for communication of all chapter activities with members Message or all members at least one day before all meetings/ events Send out reminders of important events Record & type the minutes of each chapter meeting (within 1 week) Keep the attendance of each chapter meeting and activity-monthly Write and send letters of invitation and thank you cards (guest speakers, administration, etc) Work with president on monthly calendar to be able to communicate with members Required to work closely with VP of Membership Activities In charge of Business Scholarships

7 VP OF MEMBERSHIP ACTIVITIES- Take pictures at every DECA event Create PowerPoint for recruitment Create PowerPoint for each meeting after major events Maintain scrapbook of DECA pictures during the year. It needs to be ready by the freshman orientation Must attend all major DECA events to get photographs for scrapbook (DECA BBQ, role play night, all meetings, etc.) Responsible for communicating with all of the members of DECA Update the Facebook group and make sure the latest news is posted on the main page. Message all members of the Facebook group at least a day before all meetings/events. The KHS DECA website must be updated as well, including the latest news and the calendar Required to work closely with the VP of Communication

8 DECA Officer Contract Officer Name: Position: We, the undersigned, have read and understand the expectations of a DECA officer and the specific expectations of the DECA officer positions. Officer Expectations: Must be available to attend meetings with officers, advisor, and/or members. Must be willing to provide support to Advisor and Officers as needed, to recruit members, practice for events, help with DECA fundraising & other projects. Must plan to participate in events and activities for DECA during the school year. Be available to participate in or help others prepare for regional, state and national competitions. Exhibit strong leadership and communication skills to help promote the organization and its members. Be a member of DECA in the previous school year. Must possess and maintain upstanding character, good academic standing and willingness to spend the time to run the operations of the organization. Violation of the expectations or failure to commit to your Officer duties and responsibilities can result in termination of your position as an Officer in KHS DECA.
