1 NORTH EAST COUNCIL ON ADDICTIONS JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title Stop Smoking Service Mentor (Tier 2) Location Responsible To As advertised Covering Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland Mentor Support Worker Accountable to Regional Treatment Service Manager / Deputy Chief Executive Purpose of Job To undertake visits to Tier 2 provider sites to assess any issues in relation to the provision of Stop Smoking services, motivate advisors in the delivery of the service and coach advisors and associated staff in the recruitment of clients and marketing To support newly qualified advisors to set up and develop their services. To deliver stop smoking advice (as per the Tier 2 Local Enhanced Service) from a location as agreed and signpost patients appropriately to Tier 3 services. Copyright NECA. May All Rights Reserved 1

2 Principle Responsibilities Assist new Tier 2 advisors to set up their service, including guidance on how to market the service and where to order materials Provide short term support to Tier 2 stop smoking advisors to improve the performance of their service Provide guidance on the operational delivery of the stop smoking service including: - Paper Work - Advertising material - Accessing Resources - Retaining Clients - Use of database - NRT vouchers Complete a report for each visit to a Tier 2 provider site Provide feedback for service development Share best practice Provide support in the use of the CallitQuits data system Liaise with the pharmacist mentors/medicines management over any clinical issues Explain the use of NRT vouchers and how to order new vouchers Explain how to use CO monitors and calibrate monitors (where appropriate) Link with Tier 2 trainers to identify new advisors and existing advisors needing refresher training Link with commissioners to identify services needing additional support to improve performance Support marketing campaigns where appropriate, including taking part in street marketing Quality Assurance-Monitoring & Evaluation Be familiar with and work to quality assurance standards including QuADS, DANOS, Models of Care and any other standards relevant to the Service. Continually monitor and review the Service in line with NECA policy and procedures. Provide statistical data and reports as requested for quality assurance. Evaluate the Service assimilating feedback from service users, services partners and team members. Ensure that client records are accurate and maintained regularly. Copyright NECA. 3 Comply with NECA systems, controls, policy and procedures concerning the accurate collection, maintenance, retrieval, security and storage of client data. Supply management with relevant information and data regarding client progress including period of intervention and outcomes. Staff and Supervision Provide support and advice to other team members. Seek and accept line management supervision on a regular basis from the Manager, and to attend training courses as required, in line with professional development needs. Attend and contribute to team meetings and any other relevant group or forum, related to the duties and responsibilities of the post. 5 Person Specification Essential Criteria Knowledge Equality and Diversity Practices Good understanding of the roles of Tier 2 and Tier 3 stop smoking services Good understanding of NHS South of Tyne and Wear Stop Smoking prescribing guidance Good understanding of computer packages including CallitQuits Knowledge of national guidance and policies relating to stop smoking and tobacco Ideally an understanding of non-statutory sector Skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Analysis and judgement skills Good organisational skills Good time management skills Computer/ITC literate. Able to work independently and as part of a team Able to demonstrate a 50% conversion rate Experience Provisions of a Tier 2 stop smoking service Ideally previous mentoring experience Qualifications Tier 2 accredited stop smoking advisor Other Capable of independent travel. 6 Terms of Employment Salary per annum (pro rata per annum) Hours of work Annual Leave Sick Pay (OSP) Allowances Stakeholder Pension 21 Hours per week. Some flexibility is required to work evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the service with equivalent time off in lieu. The post holder will be entitled to 4.8 weeks annual leave in the first year of employment and 6 weeks thereafter, plus all bank and statutory holidays. The post holder will after six months service receive an allowance of four weeks full pay and four weeks half pay; after one years service six weeks full pay and six weeks half pay; (less statutory sick pay); within each period of 12 months commencing on the first day of sickness absence. Expenses for travel whilst on NECA business are claimable, in the case of car mileage according to the prevailing rate set by the Inland Revenue, and in the case of public transport, at cost. Staff who agree to use their car must have insurance cover which includes business use. You have the option to join a Stakeholder Pension Scheme with Scottish Widows. If you contribute 3% of your salary, NECA will contribute an equal amount. There is no direct cost, although this benefit incurs a taxable payment. In addition the provision exists to include dependents, the cost to the employee varies according to individual circumstances of the persons covered. Lump sum payment of two times salary.
