1 Issue 11 6 May August NEWS & VIEWS OUR NEWS Your Views From the General Manager Russell Cole Welcome to the eleventh edition of KCGM s News & Views publication which responds to your questions about the management of our operations. So far we have brought you information on the different aspects of mining, approvals and our Social Impact Assessments, but what we really want to talk about this time is the recruitment of our most important asset our people! The KCGM operations have been built on a combination of hard work, a great attitude and a generous dose of precious yellow metal and we know that maintaining a local workforce has been crucial to our continued success. Today, Kalgoorlie-Boulder is a sophisticated regional centre offering a fantastic lifestyle with plenty of services to match and the Super Pit remains an important link to the success of the social and economic fabric of the City. With local people at the helm, community values can be embedded into everything we do which means that we not only continue to deliver gold in its physical form but also a gold standard of social performance as well. It also means that our workforce can strive for higher standards where people don t get hurt, they enjoy the work, and we exceed the performance expectations of others in the workplace and at home. Being socially responsible also means creating a good environment to operate in and considering how the very nature of our operations can sometimes affect other employers. We believe that maintaining a balanced workforce without taking skilled workers away from other industries is achievable and we are equally committed to developing local people for employment in the broader community. We are putting this into practice and we continually encourage your input into how we can keep improving in this area.
