1 Brand and Urban Innovation Centre Experience Manager Job description Location: Responsible to: Working Hours: Contract: Equal Opportunities: Urban Innovation Centre, Clerkenwell, Central London Marketing Lead Full Time. The pattern of hours may vary according to operational needs and generally work will be carried out during normal office hours. We re a flexible employer. Permanent. The essence of this role The essence of this role is define and drive a brand experience-led approach that enhances how the Future Cities Catapult and our teams operate, how we market to and engage key stakeholders and how we maximise our assets, including the Urban Innovati0n Centre. The role is responsible for providing a compelling and engaging user experience for our diverse stakeholders. This includes our core team, secondees and project partners at our Urban Innovation Centre; the Resident Innovators who advance urban innovation and who share our facilities and Mission; the SMEs and businesses who we engage, accelerate through projects and collaborate with; the mayors, city leaders and national/local government officials who we host and develop new ways of working with; leading academics and researchers with whom we seek to increase collective understanding of urban innovation; all of whom are drawn from across the UK and internationally. You will have a passion for and demonstrable expertise in brand and brand experience, likely having worked in both an agency and in-house environment. Blending a good understanding of various aspects of design (visual, experiential, speculative, user experience etc), with a pragmatism and discipline that enables you to deliver to budget, time, quality and impact. It is highly beneficial for you to have a strong interest in urban innovation, with insight into some of the pain points being felt in cities, and the challenges businesses face in addressing those challenges.

2 You will help cut through the noise and hype surrounding smart cities to deliver resonance and salience for our brand, our products and our services with key stakeholders. You will share our ambition to be the best place in the world to work on urban innovation. The role may involve some UK, European and international travel as required.

3 Main Responsibilities and Activities The Brand and UIC Experience Manager will report to the Marketing Lead and will have the following responsibilities in six key areas: (i) Be the brand champion for the whole organisation, giving a clarity and coherence to all our touch points with key stakeholders, including, vitally, the day-to-day context and experience of our core team; (ii) Be accountable for the entire innovation experience in our Urban Innovation Centre, working with teams from across the Catapult from facilities, events and digital comms to HR and our Cities Lab; (iii) Provide the design principles and parameters for functional, multi and interdisciplinary teams come together, for them to be creative, productive, supported, enabled and equipped to deliver innovation; (iv) Work closely with a team of 8 relationship developers to help them to develop tailored, brand-informed innovation experiences; (v) Work with our PR, Web and Digital Comms and Events teams on effective channel engagement and user-experiences; (vi) Support the Marketing Lead in their accountability for all aspects of our brand strategy and execution; including how it is brought to life in terms of culture and values, working with HR and people development through all aspects of brand experience for external and internal stakeholders; What will you be doing? Brand guardianship Be the organisation s brand champion, with a nuanced understanding of how to use brand and brand experience to drive positive interactions, behaviours and values. Develop new brand-informed content, materials and channel/audience engagement strategies. Provide oversight of the corporate and project-led materials to ensure its is consistent with our brand. Refresh and refine our brand guidelines, in keeping with a maturing organisation, as needed. Work closely with the Head of Communications, Marketing Lead and CEO s Office to guide internal communications that is brand-informed. Take a brand-led approach to driving impact through our key assets, including how we maximise our Urban Innovation Centre for all who experience it; As such, be accountable for all aspects including: the showcase/exhibition areas; refreshing our microtile unit content and other interactive tools; co-developing and refreshing our immersive data experiences, both fixed and mobile; our wayfinding and optimal use of shared UIC spaces including our basement, workspace, auditorium, meeting rooms and war rooms. Understanding and optimising stakeholders experiences Support the process of understanding the experiences of our key stakeholders and how we interact, in order to deliver our Mission.

4 Guide the brand and innovation experience across our digital, social and physical touchpoints from our social channels and website and their user experience to how visitors, from Mayors and Ministers to Urban Modellers, are welcomed into our Centre. Fostering and enabling a spirit of innovation and learning Make the case for investing in and changing how we use our spaces and our assets to encourage a spirit of learning, sharing and experimentation in all that we do. Convene and work with our Demonstrator Manager, Facilities Manager, Events Manager and wider tean in order to foster an innovation experience for all. Shaping new offers and experiences Contribute to the development of our value propositions and guide how innovation experiences can bring them to life. Use rich and quantitative data to glean how our products, services and innovation learning are understood, experienced and valued. Build capability Upskill Relationship Developers and others in the Catapult to use brand in order to cultivate highly productive relationships with key stakeholders, including city leaders, city officials, businesses and academics. Promoting the Future Cities Catapult to External Stakeholders Strongly communicate market challenges and opportunities, cities needs and the Catapult s insights, capabilities and value propositions to stakeholders in ways that engage actors in new and innovative combinations; to do so in ways that generate and capture value. Use your understanding of brand to produce blogs, presentations and materials that distil the Catapult s work and advance its mission. Present at events, in particular showcasing our capabilities and projects. Providing leadership, mentoring and line management duties as appropriate Provide brand expertise to the whole Catapult. Supplement the core team with agency skills as needed, delivering impact and costeffectiveness. Outcomes of the job We like to judge success against outcomes. We would expect you to achieve the following headline outcomes after one year. Providing brand expertise and leadership that builds the Catapult s reputation and positions it strongly in the marketplace, measured by lead indicators including stakeholder surveys and take-up of value packages. Defining and modelling strong brand-informed culture and behaviours that drive performance and innovation. Impact of positive, brand-informed user-experiences for key stakeholders, including a lead indicators relating to their innovation experience and outcomes at our Urban Innovation Centre.

5 Demonstrate that Future Cities Catapult staff are aware of, and can discuss, our brand values and aims, by embedding a coherent message through how we use and develop our assets. Required Competencies Have strong, clear and nuanced understanding of brand, and how it can drive culture and performance. Have strong brand-experience skills, able to develop content, touchpoints and exhibitions that illustrate our urban innovation leadership and how we enable others to succeed. Provide useful frameworks and tools to guide the thinking and understanding using brand. Have excellent influencing skills, able to generate results directly and through marshalling resources across the wider organisation. Easily build new relationships and networks in a professional or personal environment. Hold excellent and confident interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to portray a strong professional image. Hold a strong team ethic with the ability to convene and collaborate with a diverse range of people. Have demonstrable experience of working with blue chip clients. Have a commercial understanding; mindful of Catapult finances and what is right for the wider market. Have strong commercial awareness. Have superior organisational skills, including project shaping. Competent using Keynote and the suite of Microsoft packages. Be able to cut through complexity, not be a cause of it. Shows drive, purpose and integrity. Takes difficult decisions and responds constructively to pressure. Shares learning and expertise across and beyond the organisation. Skills and Experience Strong track record in brand and/or brand experience in an innovation or project-led environment; 6+ years' experience of working in similar positions, ideally in a high-innovation, high-growth agency, unit, or business; Awareness of the built environment and / or technology arena, ideally with experience of leading innovation projects in Cities; Experience working with senior level stakeholders and running Board level presentations; Ability to build, guide and motivate others to deliver outstanding results.
