Session Objectives By the conclusion of this session, you will: Understand how Peer Groups are used in Statit PPR, and various ways to optimize them Identify commonly used external data sources that have shown themselves to be beneficial to certain peer groups; explain their use Explore Statit PPR s abilities in detecting performance outliers on a constant/near-constant basis Discuss the solution s strengths in providing physicians access to their performance data when they want it Gain experience in the Data Quality and Review functionality of Statit PPR See more of the exciting new features included in Statit PPR v

Statit PPR s Central Theme: Putting control into the hands of your physicians Work with each of your Chiefs; consider that each is different and requires individual attention Chiefs and physicians won t come up with a complete list of indicators for Profiles (perhaps maybe ED and Hospitalists) but they will review and comment on what you have built Ask them what makes sense, and lead and support them to help them be the owners of the process and the measures - 3 -

Peer Group Definition in Profiles Peer Groups in Statit PPR are based on fields in Midas+ Care Manager Provider Dictionary - 4 -

Peer Group Definition in Profiles (continued) - 5 -

What about low volume physicians? Many physicians want to be on staff so they can say they are on staff at. This may be an issue for internal medicine, psychiatry, and pediatrics For low-volume physicians who do not seek clinical privileges, consider creating a new staff category Refer and Follow, for example, with minimal privileges. For this group the Statit PPR Review function can be made to include a phrase in the drop down list that says in effect, Low volume provider with minimal privileges, but no issues with staff, patients, citizenship, etc. Physicians with clinical privileges need to demonstrate adequate volume and performance as defined by the medical staff Statit PPR can track volume and performance over time If volume is low, or falls, the medical staff must address it - 6 -

Hovering over the Target Status icon gives information about the status. Quality Status - indicates class is performing at better then the pack, indicates the class is performing amongst the pack, and indicates the class is performing worse than the pack. Hovering over the Quality Status icon give information about the status. Quality Status is illustrated in the next column SPC Chart - The desired direction of performance is indicated by + /- at the top of the column. If the performance is outside the control limits in the positive direction, then the class has "Performance better than the pack". If the performance is between the control limits, then the "Performance is amongst the pack". If the performance is outside the control limits in the negative direction then the "Performance worse than the pack"

Data Quality Issues Physicians may find things that are out of alignment for example, a half dozen deliveries that were done by a dermatologist. Root cause was a system that allowed Admitting to use the first three letters of a physician s last name to find the doctor in the dictionary and MIL will give Miller, Milton, Miles, etc. Attribution: Attending attribution is still an issue. At one site, the Attending is the admitting physician, unless changed during the admission. At discharge, the Attending is assigned by the discharging physician

Data Quality Issues (continued) Data Quality and Review in PPR -- individual doctors can send an to the data experts if they think the data does not look right. Physicians can find data problems and when they do, the problems can be corrected in a timely manner. Submitted issues can be escalated when the threshold settings for issue acknowledgement or resolution has been exceeded
