2 The beginning We have been doing social work in our city, in cooperation with the Town Council in Castelldefels for more than 25 years. Once a week we have been meeting many physical needs through our Food Bank, as well as many emotional and spiritual needs. That pushed us to seek ways that would make a greater impact, a project that would bring deeper and longterm change in people and in our city. A dream come true We have been asking ourselves for some time how we could restore people s dignity and offer them tangible support, and after learning about other projects and analysing the real needs in our city, Solidarity Restaurant Imperfect was born. 2 3

3 The aim at Imperfect is that people in a difficult situation feel special, appreciated and accepted; and we do so by equipping them and helping them find their place again. We believe in second chances, and in order to give people a second chance, we need your help! Thanks for coming and doing your part! 4

5 Objectives The world breaks everyone, and afterward, many are strong in the broken places. Ernest Hemingway The main objective of this project is to help people who have suffered social exclusion or who are at risk of social exclusion with the aim of reintegrating them into. Moreover, we encourage people to realise that helping those in need is something we can all do. Other objectives at Imperfect are: - To help people to be aware of their worth and help them improve their self-esteem. - To offer a team setting job so that people can develop social skills. - To provide people with one healthy meal 5 days a week. - To equip people so they are better qualified when they go to the job market. - To help our society realise that we need to show solidarity and actively flight inequality. Imperfect is not just for people at risk of social exclusion, but it is a restaurant where every single person is treated equally, regardless their social status. We seek to acknowledge everybody s dignity. 6 7

6 L espai i la marca As you enter the restaurant you ll soon realise everything is intentional, every single detail is there for a reason: we want the visitor to react. Our world is beautiful and imperfect at the same time, it is full of wonderful but imperfect things, and that imperfection is what makes it beautiful. The restaurant is full of visual messages that seek to communicate that we love imperfection, that imperfect things can be useful again. Don t be afraid of perfection - you ll never reach it Salvador Dalí That is why all the furniture has been recycled and restored, in order to stress the message that we are all imperfect, unique and useful, as well as to emphasize that we can give a second chance to those who believe they have lost all their worth. At Imperfect we believe in the restoration of people and their inclusion into society. Imperfect is the kintsugi art applied to people The brand has been designed based on the Japanese technique of kintsugi, a philosophy that views fractures and restoration as a part of an object s story that has to be seen rather than concealed because that story and transformation gives the object more beauty and worth. 8 9

7 Values Method Equality We treat everybody equally Regardless of people s possibilities or circumstances, Imperfect treats each individual in the same way. Responsibility We encourage social cohesion We work for social cohesion creating the right conditions to be aware of and respond to the needs of people around us. Imperfect is feeling valued and coming out equipped The Programme of personal support and training lasts a minimum of 4 months. The main objective is that those who are part of the Programme feel welcome and then are willing to play their part in the project. From there, we train them in the various areas of a restaurant so that they acquire the necessary skills and experience in that field. Once a person leaves the Programme, they will have benefited from: Justice We are committed to social justice We create equal conditions fighting poverty and for people s rights, reducing social inequality and creating opportunities for all. Participation We listen to improve We hold meetings open to anyone who would like to come and take part, thus enriching the project. Community We encourage team work We work to rebuild social bonds and strengthen the links between people, since we belief that together we are stronger. Coordination 1. Being part of a family that welcomes them unconditionally. 2. Getting their self-esteem back, which they had lost due to difficult circumstances. 3. Eating one healthy meal a day. 4. Leaning about the different areas of how to run a restaurant. 5. Leaning new ways of job search in order to re-enter the labour market. Imperfect is team work Transparency We report on our accounts We report on our accounts quarterly and we share with our clients about the progress of the project. Evaluation We are constantly changing We do ongoing evaluation and listen to a diversity of opinions with the aim to improve the project. The project is supervised by an Executive Committee. We also have the support of a number of professionals, some of them on staff and some as volunteers. 9 How is it viable financially? Imperfect is under the umbrella of Con Pasión, a non-profit organisation. We don t seek financial gain, but we seek the best for people and our society. A restaurant focused on people, not on profit Our income derives primarily from 4 sources: 23% Town Council of Castelldefels 37% 20% 20% Income generated by the Restaurant Grants Friends of Imperfect Donation 100% 13
