4 Client Case Study Santander UK Santander is one of the UK's leading financial services companies. SMS Plc was appointed by Santander in 2011 to develop and manage their Go Green employee engagement campaign. The objective of the programme was to raise awareness of environmental issues and encourage staff to adopt more sustainable behaviours at work. Our Story So Far SMS Consultants created dedicated sustainability campaigns such as Reduce your Carbon Footprint, which encouraged staff to save energy, recycle more and print less. Whilst the Sustainable Santander campaign focused on promoting best practice projects happening across the organisation to raise awareness of the bank s high level of commitment to the environment. SMS is responsible for the day-to-day development and management of all Go Green communications, activities, competitions, live events, and the Green Club. The Green Club network is comprised of bank staff who volunteer their time to support Go Green campaigns to help make Santander a greener and better place to work. Since 2011 the Green Club has grown from 100 people to over 1,500 members from around Santander s offices, banking centres and branches. SMS developed bespoke projects including the Kill-A-Watt energy challenge that saw every Santander branch in the UK compete against each other to reduce their energy usage. The branches with highest percentage reduction over a 4 week period were crowned the region s Energy Champion and won 250 to donate to a charity of their choice. The 18 month project was a fantastic success with every region achieving a 10% target reduction. Overall the branch network achieved a 15% average energy reduction with zero capital investment.
