2 Role Profile Post: Department: Head of Fundraising Development and Alumni Relations Office Grade: 8 Tenure: Reports to: Permanent, Full time Director of Development and Alumni Relations Main Purpose: The purpose of the Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO) is to support the University's Strategic Plan by delivering philanthropic income and other forms of financial and non-financial support from alumni, friends, companies, livery companies, trusts and foundations and other grant making bodies and institutions. The Office raises money for University wide and strategically important initiatives that cover student support, world class research and development of City s estate. This is achieved by developing and strengthening relationships with strategically important constituents and identifying shared areas of interest and activities to enable a lifelong relationship to develop and flourish. The Office also works closely with Schools and other Professional Services teams to support UK and international student recruitment, Careers opportunities and enhances the Student Experience, all of which support the University's Mission and Vision. DARO is located in Chiswell Street, is led by a Director and has academic leadership from the President. Main Duties: The job holder has responsibility for the delivery of philanthropic income to City. The Fundraising team within DARO is responsible for three key areas of income to the University. These include the securing of new philanthropic income, securing income pledged in previous years and repeat donations where a pledge has not been made but a regular pattern of giving has been established. In addition, the management of relationships where goods and services (Gifts in Kind) falls to the responsibility of the job holder. Donations are secured from individuals, trusts and foundations, Livery Companies and companies who are likely to be alumni (in the case of individuals), friends of City or strategically aligned institutions. The job holder will be required to support the delivery of a significant fundraising campaign which will include a capital element to support the Cass Business School. The Fundraising team is led by the job holder and comprises 10.2 FTE staff including the job holder. The job holder reports to the Director of DARO. Establish, develop and manage a programme of fundraising activity benefitting all Schools of the University o Develop a strategy that will deliver significant philanthropic income to the University through a coordinated approach to fundraising o Drive and deliver philanthropic income to the University to agreed levels by managing a team of fundraising staff 2

3 o o o Manage a portfolio of key high net worth individual donor and prospect relationships with a view to securing philanthropic and other support for the University Manage a team of fundraising staff who will all establish relationship portfolios by identifying, cultivating and developing relationships with high net worth prospects Develop cultivation activities for use by the Fundraising team to help turn prospects into donors Be responsible for a high profile Regular Giving Programme to reach all former UK students and selected international alumni o Oversee the management of a Regular Giving operation whereby prospects are encouraged to make low level donations to strategically important University initiatives. o This operation to combine previous telephone fundraising activities from the former City and Cass Annual Fund activities o Ensure the reputation and standing of the University is protected fully at all times o Produce regular financial reports to provide up to date information on progress Identify and develop potential fundraising initiatives that are strategically important to the University o Prepare compelling cases for support for initiatives identified as fundraising priorities and important to the University and its Schools o Test these cases with academic colleagues to ensure a thorough understanding of each project o Where appropriate test each prospective programme with external parties o Establish a fundraising plan for each initiative to include: Proposed cultivation activities Tables of giving Proposed target audience and methods planned to reach each segment Proposed timescales o Provide written and other forms of communication to share progress with donors, prospects and internal constituents Work with academic colleagues to provide an outstanding support for the University s Schools o Support the Director of DARO in establishing, developing and delivering an outstanding support service to Deans of Schools and Head of Departments o Attend meetings with key representatives from Schools to identify better ways of working and how DARO might support the Schools in ways other than fundraising Work collaboratively with Professional Services colleagues across different disciplines o Work closely with colleagues responsible for UK and international recruitment, Careers, Professional Mentoring and Outreach activities to help achieve and exceed their strategically important objectives by establishing processes where the benefits of DARO contacts and other relationships are maximised. Be an effective member of the DARO Management team o Work collaboratively with DARO colleagues to help deliver an outstanding service to those the team serves o Provide support to Director of DARO and where requested deputise for that post o Be an outstanding Ambassador for the University at all UK and international functions The above list is not exclusive or exhaustive and the post holder will be required to undertake such duties as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post and in consultation with the post holder. Candidate Specification Post Department: Head of Fundraising Development and Alumni Relations Office Grade: 8 Tenure: Reports to: Permanent, Full time Director, Development and Alumni Relations Experience, Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge Experience Essential Experience of team leading a fundraising operation within the Higher Education Sector At least 3 years fundraising experience A track record of securing multiple donations of 25k+ over the past four years Recent experience of working with senior people within an organisation and business leaders from a high net worth environment and securing financial or other support Recent experience of delivering significant new fundraising income Experience of managing multi-disciplined teams Preferable Experience of working with a Campaign Board Experience of using Raisers Edge, the University s preferred fundraising database to manage fundraising prospects Experienced in working with Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook Knowledge Essential An in depth knowledge of fundraising techniques and best practice A strong understanding of current political issues A strong appreciation of the role of Higher Education in the context of the wider economy A good understanding of the issues currently facing those studying at University In depth knowledge of tax efficient methods to support philanthropic giving A thorough understanding of Data Protection and other relevant legislation Preferable A strong understanding of Health and Safety at Work legislation A clear understanding of the University's Strategic objectives 4

This is on Grade 8 of the salary scales for Clerical and Certain Related Administrative staff. Annual Leave is 27 days, plus 8 statutory and 3 additional days during the Christmas holiday period. You will have the option to join the USS pension Scheme. Employees electing to join make a contribution from their annual salary. This post is permanent and full time (35 hours per week).
