WHY JOIN OUR TEAM The Development team s mission is to build strong lifelong relationships with United Way s constituents, match donor s interest with United Way s needs and priorities and secure the financial resources necessary for United Way to achieve excellence in supporting children, youth and families through individual giving, corporate campaigns and grants. The Development team is committed to serving United Way s mission by breaking the cycle of poverty by removing barriers on long term solutions by POSITION MISSION The Director of Major Gifts will be charged with strategically developing and managing a robust major gifts program for gifts $10,000 and above. This Director will be responsible for selling and achieving major gift revenue goals and will work closely with the Major Gifts Officer, the CEO, and the VP of Development, the VP of Community Impact and specific volunteers, securing funds. RESPONSIBILITIES UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE VICE PRESIDENT FOR DEVELOPMENT, THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING CAPABILITIES: Be the product knowledge expert to build and execute strategies for the identification, solicitation, cultivation, stewardship and growth of major gifts. This includes developing a portfolio of current and prospective donors and foundations with identified revenue and growth goals by measurement of # of face to face visits # of outreach prospect meetings # of asks/solicitations $ amount of revenue goal Develop meaningful ways to engage Alexis de Tocqueville (ADT) Society donors and prospects (throughout the year); through stewardship and engagement in events and volunteer opportunities. Recruit and manage the ADT Committee that supports major gift goals and assists in identifying and soliciting major gifts, utilizing a variety of internal staff to support the work. Design and manage Major Gift prospects outside ADT/workplace to build portfolio of new business. Create customized giving opportunities and develop tailored proposals, gift solicitations and case statements for current and prospective donors, (align donor interests with impact strategies). Partner and collaborate with Resource Development Officers to develop strategies to move workplace campaign leadership givers to higher level of giving.

2 Develop working understanding of Community Investment strategy framing and identify opportunities to leverage and increase mission related giving among leadership donors. Maintains current and accurate leadership giving information in our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database for marketing purposes. Demonstrate superior customer service skills, both internally and externally. Work closely with the VP of Impact to create and maintain relationships with specific foundations and to provide opportunities for engagement around our organizational products and initiatives and identify sources for funding the costs of our impact work. Research opportunities to align our work with their interests. Develop and manage expenses within the Major Gifts program. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervise, coach and mentor the Major Gifts Officer. POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS BA required. Master s Degree, CFRE and/or certification in fundraising preferred. Minimum 5-10 years of resource development experience with emphasis in Major Gifts. Knowledge of local philanthropic community. Demonstrated abilities in management, written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Experience in dealing with corporate culture, executive level contacts and involvement of corporate culture in philanthropy. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Experience in human services or related field. Knowledge of and experience with strategic planning. Experience working with volunteers. Experience working with diverse groups of people. Demonstrated knowledge of donor database i.e. CRM, Raisers Edge Use of general office equipment Personal vehicle, Driver s License and proof of insurance.
