1 Reports to: Chief Operating Officer FLSA Classification: Exempt Last date reviewed: 5/6/2018 Position Summary: Vice President of Development & Marketing Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), this position is a member of Board of Child Care s (BCC) Senior Leadership Team. The Vice President (VP) is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the development and marketing departments across all of BCC s Mid-Atlantic geographic footprint (a complete map is viewable at boardofchildcare.org/programs). The position will mentor and oversee two full time fundraisers and a full-time marketing position, as well as external vendors and consultants. Gift entry support is provided by BCC s finance department. On the development side of BCC, the VP manages donor relationships, annual giving appeals, online giving strategies, and planned gifts. There is currently no formal major gift, capital campaign, fundraising event, or grant writing program at BCC currently. It is expected that the VP will work with the COO on when it would be appropriate to phase in any new revenue generating opportunities into the team s long-term strategic plan. On the marketing side, the VP is responsible for executing campaigns centered around the recruitment of both prospective employees and treatment foster care (TFC) families. Additional staff from both the human resource and the TFC teams support these efforts. The VP will also work closely with program leaders and the admissions team to craft and execute a relationship-focused strategy surrounding the referral of clients and families to BCC s programs. Essential Functions: Work closely with the Board of Directors, President and CEO, Executive Leadership Team, and Senior Leadership Team to assist BCC in achieving its purpose enriching communities, one family at a time. Demonstrate and practice trauma informed leadership. Model and act in accordance with BCC s core values. Collaborate on the development of Development and Marketing departmental strategic plans with the COO. Work across all teams to ensure the plans become operational. Develop and execute annual projects and goals that support these and other strategic initiatives at BCC. Collaborate with the COO on staffing and vendor support needed to ensure strategic priorities and revenue targets are met. Prepare and submit an annual operational budget for each area of responsibility and manage effectively within this budget

2 Provide the necessary leadership and management to develop and protect a strong and consistently applied brand for BCC. Lead BCC s rebranding initiative scheduled to begin in FY20 from start to finish. Create, activate, and manage effective messages during planned and unplanned media events. Monitor the development teams progress to meet desired revenue targets as well as the number of monthly / sustaining donors enrolled. Report accurately on progress made and challenges encountered. Transform the planned giving program from one that is passive to one that is proactive. Oversee all annual giving efforts and ensure all materials follow best practices, BCC s internal guidelines, and adhere to the Association of Fundraising Professional s code of ethics. Work closely with the President and CEO as well as the COO to facilitate the involvement of the Board of Directors in BCC s fundraising plans. Support BCC s recruitment efforts for both prospective employees and treatment foster care (TFC) families. Strategy to include direct mail, events, and other outreach initiatives. Support BCC s program and admission teams by formalizing the management of key federal, state, and local relationships that drive referrals of clients and families to BCC s programs. Non-Essential Functions: Act as organizational spokesperson as needed (typically only in the absence of an Executive Team member). Partner with the quality improvement and program teams to cultivate stories to share with donors and the wider BCC community. Attend the Alumni, Collaborations, and Development Committee (ACDC) of the BCC Board of Directors. Participate in BCC s accreditation processes and ensure accreditations are maintained between renewals. Provide leadership, strategic guidance, and recruitment support for BCC s volunteer Auxiliary as well as for volunteers generally. Ensure departmental policy and procedure manuals are kept up to date and submitted for approval before the stated deadlines. Monitor BCC s online reputation and take active steps to cultivate a positive online image for the organization. Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, desk phones, smart phone and tablet devices, scanners, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. In the nature of being at a residential and school living environment there may be times you experience conditions in which challenging behavior can be exhibited from our youth to include but not limited to, physical agitation, physical violence and/or emotion outburst. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position requires flexibility outside these hours, to sometimes include evening and weekend work. This position is eligible to participate in BCC s flex schedule and is considered non-essential for snow. Travel This position requires weekly travel. A company vehicle will be provided as needed. 4 Required Education and Experience A minimum of a Bachelors degree from an accredited institution. A minimum of eight (8) years experience in professional fundraising o Expertise in regionally branded or chapter based annual giving, or peer to peer fundraising preferred. o At least 5 years of this experience must have been supervising a development team. Proven ability to work with high-level volunteers, as well as board members. Experience in supporting volunteer committees. Ability and eagerness to interact positively with volunteers and board members. Ambition, tact and finesse required. Success in asking for and closing major gifts and in building and maintaining long term relationships with major individual donors and foundations is required. Knowledge of the Maryland, West Virginia, DC, and or PA fundraising communities strongly desired. Ability to supervise, coach, and mentor staff Ability to keep an electronic calendar (Outlook) and task list (Asana.com) a must Ability to pass the written test for Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI). No physical TCI test is required for this position. Ability to obtain and maintain certification in CPR/First Aid Ability to demonstrate the possession of a valid driver s license prior to employment and ability to maintain the license and operate a motor vehicle thereafter. Ability to pass CPS/UII background check both prior to employment and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter. Ability to pass a Tuberculosis Screening both prior to employment and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter Ability to pass a work-readiness physical performed by a certified medical professional both prior to employment and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter.
