HILS other sites are located in: Ware, SG12 0EF; Hemel Hempstead, HP2 4EU; and St Albans, AL3 5BU). Very occasional travel may be required to HILS London areas of delivery. 23,088-25,000 per annum 37 hours per week Permanent Business Development Manager No direct line management responsibility initially, but this will be brought in during the contracted term Contacts: Chief Executive; Executive and Senior Teams; wider Leadership Team, including operational Team Leaders and teams; clients; external stakeholders; commissioners; press & media. Summary: About HILS: Hertfordshire Independent Living Service is a successful not-for-profit social enterprise delivering a variety of services to help older and vulnerable people across the county stay happy, healthy and independent in their homes for as long as possible. About the role: We need a creative and ambitious Lead Marketing and Communications Officer to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity with possibilities for progression. The main purpose of this role is to: 1) support with the ongoing development of an integrated marketing and communication strategy in Hertfordshire, and 2) lead on the delivery of high quality internal and external communications activities across a range of channels from managing press relations, to leading campaigns, producing new marketing materials and overseeing distribution, to presenting our services at conferences or other large events. The post holder will work alongside the Business Development Manager to develop and implement HILS communication and marketing strategy. Principle Responsibilities

2 Key responsibilities: Manage and deliver to the HILS Communications Calendar: HILS is proactively involved in a large number of awareness-raising and fundraising campaigns, the role of the Lead Marketing and Communications Officer is to plan, lead, and work with others to make these as successful as possible. o Planning campaigns we need someone who can think ahead and set deadlines, you will need to be able to think tactically about how campaigns will affect our numerous teams and to get the most out of every campaign activity. o Creative thinking we need someone who can come up with great ideas that reflect the diversity of our services and inspire people, but is also mindful of our limited resources as a charitable social enterprise. o Leadership for many of these campaigns, HILS is a regional leader and sets the tone. You will need to be able to influence people and manage complex scenarios with help from a supportive and dedicated Senior Team. Manage our relationships with national and local press: HILS is frequently covered in the national and local media, the Lead Marketing and Communications Officer is responsible for attracting their attention to our campaigns, and coordinating their coverage. We need someone who can think on their feet, is adaptable and unflustered by tight deadlines or last minute changes, and has the tenacity to make things happen. o Producing press releases, engaging regularly with local and national press contacts; o Maintaining a list of potential interviewees, liaising with key contacts to set up interviews. Internal communications: HILS has a large number of teams delivering different services across five sites four in Hertfordshire and one in London. The Lead Marketing and Communications Officer is responsible, alongside their Londonbased peer, for finding creative solutions to ensure effective communications between these disparate teams. Manage the HILS online presence and social media: HILS has a recognisable brand and good social media following, we also enjoy an excellent reputation with clients and local stakeholders. The Lead Marketing and Communications Officer is responsible for ensuring that we continue to develop our online presence (such as our website) and cultivate our brand, relationship with partners, and reputation. We expect our social media communications to be fun and exciting linking in with key partners and trending issues but also serious and informative in line with our social mission. Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders: HILS works with a number of influential partners to ensure we continue to grow our business, providing ever more and better services to vulnerable people who need them. The Marketing and Communications team plays a pivotal role in making sure we grow the partnerships and communicate effectively with other organisations in the health, social care, and

3 charitable sectors, who collaborate with us to promote our services and reach more people. o making new connections and expanding our network of influencers: we need people who can think creatively and be proactive about forging new relationships (finding and attending meetings/conferences, giving presentations, etc.); o cultivating our existing partnerships by maintaining positive relationships: we need people who are good communicators and able to understand the complexities of partnership working o developing all external-facing literature and the HILS annual magazine: we expect the successful candidate to be able to work to a high-level brief to produce effective, well-designed communications materials which respect the HILS style and branding. We need people who have a good commercial sense and an eye for design, who can provide creative solutions whilst being mindful of the needs of our clients. 4 Qualifications & Job Requirements: PART 2: PERSON SPECIFICATION Satisfactory DBS check The right to work in the UK Bachelor s Degree in any subject, OR relevant qualifications and experience of communications, engagement, or other marketing work Ability to attend the other HILS sites regularly Ability to attend external sites / events regularly Some flexibility in hours and days of work to accommodate out of hours events Desirable: UK driving licence and access to own vehicle for travelling to HILS sites and external locations and events Skills, Knowledge, and Experience: Excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent organisational skills Excellent attention to detail Ability to think creatively Ability to use own initiative Ability to work well alone and in a team Ability to keep accurate records of work Ability to work with minimal levels of supervision Good ICT skills, including Excel, Outlook, Word, Publisher, and PowerPoint Desirable: Experience of the older people s sector Experience of the voluntary and community sector Experience and understanding of working in a small business Experience of updating websites, and ability to use content management systems such as WordPress Experience of Adobe Creative Suite especially Photoshop and InDesign Personal Qualities: Ability to communicate with internal and external customers and stakeholders effectively, both verbally and in writing An effective and positive team player Reliable Confidence and ability to deal with people at all levels Ability to work on own initiative Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines Ability to plan and organise own workload Commitment to providing great customer service Flexible, positive approach Ability to model HILS values, behaviours, and equalities requirements
