3 Organization Update Message from the President SCNO Alumni & Friends, I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on the happenings of the organization as we progress through the midway point of the semester. Fueled with a refreshing perspective from our Mid-Semester Meeting our teams are digging deep into their analysis and are beginning to draft their final conclusions. This semester we have 6 teams working with local clients and extending all the way to Ann Arbor and Metro Detroit. We look forward to seeing all of their hard work pay off as do our clients, I m sure. I wanted to thank all of you that have contributed your time, insight, and generous support to the organization we wouldn t be where we are without you. 7 Client Overview United Way Washtenaw County United Way Habitat for Humanity Center for Financial Health Think Local First Summer Camp Scholarships Ann Arbor, MI uwwashtenaw.org Mentor: Jeff Smith Engagement Overview United Way would like SCNO to help improve their marketing as the Affordable Care Act has changed a lot of the services that they offer. This is a multidimensional project as SCNO must help streamline United Way s marketing on national and local levels and to United Way s volunteers and consumers as well. SCNO aims to create a more centralized message for the United Way of Washtenaw County s Coordinated Funding program, to help increase marketing and funding opportunities. 8 Client Overview Habitat for Humanity Michigan State Chapter United Way Habitat for Humanity Center for Financial Health Think Local First Summer Camp Scholarships East Lansing, MI habitatlansing.org Mentor: Andrew Gamble Engagement Overview This is the Michigan State chapter of Habitat for Humanity. As they are a newer chapter, they are struggling to engage members effectively and would like SCNO to help provide some guidance. Habitat for Humanity also requires annual dues on top of ordinary expenses, so this chapter would like help engaging in defining a sustainable fundraising platform as well. 9 Client Overview Center for Financial Health United Way Habitat for Humanity Center for Financial Health Think Local First Summer Camp Scholarships Lansing, MI centerforfinancialhealth.org Mentor: Bryce Heller Engagement Overview The Center for Financial Health aims to help people understand their financial well-being, with a particular emphasis on home ownership. They are a newer organization (founded in 2005) that would appreciate SCNO s help in creating a more effective marketing campaign to help spread the word about their services. Despite being in existence for 30+ years, they have never had a formal volunteer structure. SCNO s role is to help the new Volunteer Coordinator determine how to best organize, structure, communicate with, and use the volunteers that gets. SCNO has been asked to design a 1, 3, and 5 year strategic outlook plan for Think Local First to help them achieve their goals. This should also include a plan for the role that the Board of Directors should play in Think Local First. They would like SCNO to provide a better defined organizational structure and evaluate current fundraising efforts in order to help the organization more effectively reach their goals.
