1 JOB DESCRIPTION AND PERSON SPECIFICATION Job Title: Salary: 27,499-33,569 Quality Officer, UAL Awarding Body Grade: 3 Location: Awarding Body Office based at High Holborn, London Accountable to: Section: Awarding Body Senior Quality Officer University of the Arts London Awarding Body Purpose of Job: To support the Senior Quality Officer in the maintainance, development and monitoring of the quality assurance policies and processes that support UAL Awarding Body s core business, its approved centres (schools, colleges and universities), qualifications and students. Working closely with the Senior Quality Officer and another Quality Officer, the role will assist with the development and implementation of regulatorily compliant quality assurance policies and procedures to support the core business processes and operations and ensure standards are maintained. Policies and procedures must also ensure that all quality assurance processes facilitate the delivery of exemplary customer service by minimising the administrative burden on centre staff, examiners and moderators. The postholder will have a sound understanding of the Ofqual regulatory framework and will play an integral part in collating the evidence required for the Ofqual annual statement of compliance. This will involve working collaboratively with the both the Head of Academic Standards and Quality and Operations team to ensure that all documentation acurately reflects agreed policies and working practices. Duties and responsibilities Working relationships: In conjunction with the other Quality Officer, assist the Senior Quality Officer in the production of the annual quality assurance plan. Work closely and collaboratively with other members of the Quality and Operations team to provide support in all quality related matters. Support the Head of Academic Standards, Examiners and Moderators to help ensure assessment and quality assurance is to the required standard and undertaken within agreed timeframes. Knowledge & understanding: Acquire and maintain a good understanding and working knowledge of UAL Awarding Body s qualifications portfolio. Develop a good understanding of UAL Awarding Body assessment and quality assurance policies and procedures Develop a good working knowledge of regulatory requirements and the Ofqual General Conditions of Recognition Provide advice, guidance and support in response to written, and telephone queries from external moderators and centre staff Manage, take ownership of and resolve basic queries and issues relating to centre and qualification approval, complaints and appeals, special considerations and reasonable adjustments, and exemption and recognition of prior learning.

2 Annual self- assessment process Assist with the organisation and execution of the annual Ofqual Self-Assessment exercise and with the subsequent collation of evidence and production of the the annual Statement of Compliance, ensuring that all milestones and deadlines are met. Monitor systems and processes to confirm ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements. Contribute to the preparation of information required for internal or external audits of the UAL Awarding Body by regulatory authorities. Policies & Procedures Maintain and improve policies and procedures and monitor their effectiveness. Have responsibility for reviewing and updating policies and handbooks. Support the management of quality assurance of processes and systems that support UAL Awarding Body s core business funtions including: Centre and qualification approval, re-approval Centre monitoring and risk assessment External assessment and moderation Assessment delivery and recording of achievement Student registration and certification Maintain accurate, auditable records of all quality assurance and compliance processes, ensuring that documents are dated, versioned and secure. Implement committee recommendations, guidelines and policies relating to all aspects of quality assurance as directed by the Senior Quality Officer. Reporting: Provide written reports on the effectiveness of quality and compliance issues as required. Actively seek to identify any risks to quality and compliance and advise the Senior Quality Officer accordingly. Extract and report on quality data as required, assisting with the validation and preparation of data returns for regulators and centres. University protocol: Be aware of, and adhere to, relevant legislation and procedures governing the management and use of personal data. Participate in the general development of the UAL Awarding Body in a manner consistent with the level and duties of the post, and to be flexible in the design and operation of systems and processes. Be willing to undertake travel to centres which are located across the UK, which may involve occasional overnight stays. Perform such duties consistent with your role as may from time to time be assigned to you anywhere within the University. Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the role.
