For more information, please see About the Practice Programme at IIHS The Practice Team at IIHS is responsible for providing cutting-edge and integrated solutions to India s urban development challenges by bringing together faculty and experts across diverse domains of knowledge and practice, exposing learners to real-life problems, and integrating the practice into academics and research. Job Description The Capacity Building team of IIHS at Chennai runs multiple learning programmes across different locations for a range of stakeholders in Tamil Nadu. We are looking for a training coordinator who would support us in this function. As part of the Chennai Capacity Building team, the training coordinator will be responsible for managing the implementation of the capacity building component of the IIHS Chennai operations. The training coordinator will have overall responsibility for implementation of capacity building programmes. Responsibilities include communication with participants and vendors, scheduling and managing the sessions/programmes, liasoning with faculty members and government officers, and monitoring and quality assurance of the programme. This is a contracted position for an initial term of 6 months, extendable on mutual agreement based on the individual s performance and project/programme needs. Activities and Tasks The responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following: Supporting all activities in the Capacity Building component, implementing systems and procedures; Providing support in the planning, preparation and implementation of training programmes, including scheduling and: o Communication and liasoning with all stakeholders, including government, participants and vendors; o Day to day co-ordination and monitoring to ensure timely completion of training programmes;

3 Training Coordinator Capacity Building 3 o Active monitoring and quality control of programmes, and preparation of regular progress reports; Carrying out project management tasks as and when required including planning, budgeting, training, implementing, monitoring and supervising, evaluating and closing research and consulting projects; Teaching and/or assisting in teaching relevant courses in IIHS Academic and Executive Education Programmes; Providing support to other IIHS activities including, academics, research, operations and Institution-building activities. Structure and Reporting The training coordinator will coordinate on his/her services and deliverables with the Senior Specialist Capacity Building at IIHS. Person Specification The candidate is required to possess Graduate education and at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in training administration/delivery. Prior experience in conducting training or operations is mandatory. She or he should have an excellent track record of delivery, good people management and facilitation skills, and significant competency in project management and IT skills. Strong oral and written communication skills, both face-to-face and over the phone, are necessary for this role. Proficiency in Tamil is essential. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in and understanding of formal and informal construction and urban sector, and working experience with Government agencies and personnel. This offer is on a contractual basis. The initial contact will be for 6 months but is extendable on mutual agreement based on the individual s performance and project/programme needs. The search will remain open until the position is filled. Location This position is based in Chennai and may entail travel to other locations in India.
