2 About the role Team description The Brand and Creative Department supports WaterAid both in the UK and globally to raise awareness of the global water and sanitation crisis and WaterAid s work to change this. The Brand and Creative Department develops creative communications that have impact and deliver change: ensuring WaterAid leads the way with innovative and engaging storytelling content. The team works across the organisation to identify and develop critical strategic communications activities around key moments. This includes the creation of thematic messages and shared content, as well as developing the processes and procedures to support delivery of these essential communications. Job purpose The Senior Content Officer will play a central role and act as first point of contact in the Voices from the Field content gathering programme a global communications initiative aimed at bringing WaterAid s work to life through regular project updates via dedicated local staff. The Senior Content Officer will manage the day-to-day running of the programme, ensuring systems and processes are in place and working effectively to deliver content films, photos and case studies across the global organisation for use in fundraising, advocacy, reporting and communications. The Senior Content Officer will map and evaluate the flow of all content across the Brand and Creative team from initial request to final output to ensure there is a joined up, cross-team approach to our content gathering and delivery. They will work closely with the Film and Photo teams to ensure content is of consistently good quality and meeting our high ethical standards.

3 Accountabilities The Senior Content Officer works closely with the Voices from the Field officer team to coordinate field visits. They line manage four members of the team and will work with the International Communications Manager to contribute to the wider Voices from the Field team development. 1. Manage the day to day activities of the Voices from the Field (VftF) programme. Liaise with the officers, combining requests across the department, sending out briefs, coordinating schedules and sharing new and innovative content. 2. Manage content requests from the global VftF Client team (made up of representatives from across the WaterAid federation) and deliver these in line with organisational expectations. Coordinate monthly meetings, keeping the Client team updated and liaising on new requests and enquiries. 3. Line manage four of the VftF officers. Promote and demonstrate effective crossteam working by collaborating closely with in-country line managers. 4. Create, manage and evaluate effective content flow systems and processes. Maintain a digital project management system, including a log for all requests, all VftF briefs (active and past) and an archive of VftF communications products. 5. Work closely with the rest of the Brand and Creative department to categorise and prioritise content gathering according to organisational value. 6. Collaborate with the Film and Photo teams to develop creative briefs overseeing the process from start to finish and ensuring all briefs are clear, are the best response to the content needed, and meet our ethical standards. 7. Oversee the quality control of all VftF content and addressing and/or escalating any ethical/quality concerns with the relevant member of the Creative and Brand department. 8. Support the VftF officers when they upload content to Asset Bank (WaterAid s online multimedia library) and approve their content for use. 9. Edit case studies for quality of language and ensure they follow the standard format for Asset Bank.

4 10. Co-ordinate regular feedback sessions with all VftF Officers in conjunction with the Film and Photo teams. Support the International Communications Manager to identify skills gaps and develop appropriate training with the Film and Photo teams. 11. Work with the International Communications Manager to help promote organisational understanding, drive behaviour change and build capability in others where necessary to meet the organisation s objectives around generating innovative and inspiring content. 12. Track and evaluate all content from initial request to final product and conduct six monthly process reviews and a yearly content review. 13. Provide team cover and support for the International Communications Manager as required and commensurate with the remit of the role and in line with business needs. 14. Travel internationally on content-gathering briefs or to deliver training as required, approximately 2 weeks per year.

5 Person specification Essential skills 1. Graduate qualification in a communications/media related field or equivalent demonstrable work experience. 2. Proven experience of communications project management; with an organised and thorough approach to planning and delivering projects within budget and on time. 3. Good visual literacy for photography and film with the ability to spot a good story and good knowledge of communications trends. Experience of creatively inputting to film and photo briefs. 4. Proven experience of developing and delivering creative communications projects for a wide range of audiences. 5. Proven experience of designing and implementing logistical systems and procedures. 6. Experience of managing and motivating a team and remote line management and cross-team collaboration. 6. Strong stakeholder management experience, including senior management. Able to successfully manage stakeholder expectations, influence and negotiate in line with organisational priorities. Resilience, assertiveness and confidence in dealing with difficult situations and groups.

6 7. Excellent workload management and prioritisation skills. Ability to deliver quality work on time and in line with client team expectations without compromising organisational objectives. 8. Agile thinker with the ability to try innovative things and constantly review for continuous improvement. 9. Excellent, accurate written and verbal communication skills in English. 10. Experience of international development issues and/or working in the voluntary sector in a communications role. 2. Photography and video editing skills (Final Cut Pro/Adobe Lightroom). 3. An understanding of the ethical issues surrounding communications for international development. 4. Spoken and/or written French and/or Portuguese.
