Through the structural frameworks our vision and purpose for our diocesan officers is to offer support, advice and exceptional service to all those who work and worship in the parishes and Deaneries of the Diocese enabling them to serve God through their witness to the good news of Jesus Christ Name Job Title Salary Employment contract Reports to Youth Hubs Project Leader Grade 8 c. 38,000 per annum Fixed term for 2 years initially due to external funding Diocesan Director of Education *Please note: This post is open to lay and ordained applicants on employment terms and the employer will be the Canterbury Diocesan Board of Finance. Job Summary As the Diocesan Youth Hubs Project Leader you are ultimately responsible for completing the project work in line with the plan, on time and to the required quality standard, and will regularly report progress to the Project Board. The main aims of this role include: Detailed design and development of a project to establish a Youth Hub in Sittingbourne and two further Youth Hubs across the Diocese. These will focus on making and nurturing new Christians of secondary school age among the non-church going; Overseeing the development of a Stage 2 Bid to the Church Commissioners to attract Strategic Development Funding. The focus of this role is apostolic in starting new Christian communities through mission and church planting.

2 Job Location Sittingbourne. Attendance for meetings at Diocesan House, Lady Wootton s Green Canterbury Kent will be expected. Structure Chart Diocesan Secretary Youth Hubs Project Board Diocesan Director of Education Diocesan Strategic Programme Manager Rector of Holy Trinity, Sittingbourne Youth Hubs Project Leader Diocesan Project Manager Youth Hubs Staff & Volunteers Main Duties You will be responsible for: Establishing and building relationships with schools and churches across Sittingbourne and the surrounding secondary school catchment areas; Recruiting, developing and training the team that will be involved with the first hub in Sittingbourne; Development of suitable discipleship and leadership training materials as required; Finding ways to seek to ensure that each Youth Hub becomes financially sustainable within six years of launch; Establishing further planting as part of the DNA of the project, ensuring that learning is captured and youth leaders are developed in readiness for leading subsequent Youth Hub plants; Overseeing the launch of at least two further Youth Hubs across the Diocese; Working with the Children and Young People s Ministry Adviser, to contribute to the wider development of the Children and Young People Strategy across the Diocese and to learn from and speak into the national conversation around Growing Faith Ensuring that records are kept and that the Youth Hubs Project Board and others as appropriate receive sufficient and timely progress reports;

3 Working with the Diocesan Communications Director to ensure effective knowledge management of the project. Other requirements include: Being passionate about making and nurturing new Christians of secondary school age; Providing leadership, guidance and support to all employed or voluntary staff involved with the project; Dealing with all day-to-day issues associated with the Youth Hubs; Being the public and visible face of Youth Hubs, internally and externally; Managing the project and its budget and ensure that the timeline is adhered to; Documenting the journey, ensure ongoing evaluation, provide reports to the Project Board and keep records; Advocating for the mission and ministry of the Youth Hubs, both within the Diocese and further afield, and maintaining a plan for doing so; Building relationships with leaders in local churches within the secondary school catchment areas; Building relationships with secondary and primary schools in the area; With the Project Board and Diocesan HR, selecting and recruiting the Youth Hub team members; Prepare training materials, and worship resources; Conduct the first phase of training; Participation of fundraising and funding bids. Lines of Accountability and Supervision The post-holder will be accountable for delivery, including accountability for the 2million budget, to the Youth Hubs Project Board. The Project Manager will work closely with the Project Leader to ensure detailed plans are developed and executed, risks are monitored, refurbishment work is progressed and completed on time, budget monitoring reports are available for the Project Leader and progress is reported to the Project Board. Ministry Supervision will be provided by the Rector of Holy Trinity, Sittingbourne, Reverend Mike Resch. Line management will be to the Director of Education in the Diocese of Canterbury, Quentin Roper. Annual appraisals will be conducted jointly by the Line Manager and Ministry Supervision. The post holder will be expected to conduct performance appraisals for each member of the Youth Hubs teams. Terms and conditions of employment This post is being offered on employment terms by the Canterbury Diocesan Board of Finance.

4 This post is initially a two year fixed term post due to external funding, but it is anticipated that this may be extended by at least a further 4 years depending on securing additional Church Commissioner funding. 5 Person Specification Qualifications/Education/Experience required Essential Detailed practical knowledge and experience of establishing youth ministry with nonchurchgoing youth; Ability to pass that knowledge and experience to others, and to empower them; Understanding and experience of theological issues and working with youth mission projects; Project management experience. Desirable An understanding of the Diocese of Canterbury its geography and culture; An awareness of the impact of theology on the church and its organisation; An understanding and awareness of Church structures. Skills required experience in leading and managing resources, costs and people; excellent organisation skills, to plan the use of people and resources to meet deadlines; strong interpersonal skills, to inspire, energise, motivate and lead diverse teams; the ability to monitor and control budgets; excellent communication skills to present the vision and keep people engaged; strong negotiation skills to harness the time and talent of stakeholders and to manage their expectations; capability to design & develop training and worship resources; the ability to use your initiative and make decisions under pressure; technical knowledge related to the project may also be required Financial and budgetary control Personal resilience Genuine Occupational Requirement There is a requirement that the post holder be a Christian as you will be advocating the values of the Church of England and creating disciples and nurturing new young Christians of secondary school age
