1 Director, Marketing & Communications Position Summary Position title: Director, Marketing & Communications Team: Marketing & Communications Location: Melbourne CBD Position type/fte: Fixed Term: 1.0 FTE Tenure: Fixed term until 30 June 2020 Probation period: 6 months Salary classification: Executive Reports to: Chief Executive Officer Date approved: September 2018 Organisation Context Our Watch was established by the Commonwealth and Victorian governments in 2013 to drive nation-wide change in the culture, behaviours and structures that drive violence against women and their children. Since then the governments of the Australian Capital Territory, South Australia, Tasmania, Northern Territory, Queensland and Western Australia have joined as members. An independent not for profit company limited by guarantee, the organisation is based in Melbourne and registered with ASIC as the Foundation to Prevent Violence against Women and their Children. Our Watch is governed by a Board on behalf of its members. Our Watch works in partnership with others in public and private sectors. Our Watch s vision is an Australia where women and their children live free from all forms of violence. Our mandate is to stop violence before it happens, and our purpose is to provide national leadership to prevent all forms of violence against women and their children. Our work will always be based on sound research and strong and diverse partnerships. Our Watch recognises and values diversity amongst its staff and strongly encourages suitably qualified people from all backgrounds, especially people who have a strong understanding of intersectionality either by working with diverse population groups or a lived experience. 2 Position Overview Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director, Marketing & Communications is responsible for leading Our Watch s work across marketing, media, digital and corporate communications. By providing inclusive, visionary leadership for a team of marketing and communications professionals, the Director, Marketing and Communications leads the development, implementation and evaluation of Our Watch s marketing and communications strategy, ensuring the integration of social marketing campaigns, corporate communications, digital presence, media relations and brand. The role is required to provide high-level strategic marketing and communications advice to the CEO, Senior Executive Team, Board and staff as required, and works in partnership with Directors of Policy & Evaluation, Practice Leadership and Corporate Services on the development of communications related to their respective portfolios. The Director, Marketing & Communications works as an active, collaborative member of the Senior Executive Team, supporting organisational planning and decision making. Responsibilities and Accountabilities Marketing campaign development and implementation - Lead and oversee the end-to-end design, development, implementation and evaluation of Our Watch s marketing campaigns, ensuring campaigns are evidence-based, effective and based on best-practice social marketing approaches. - Ensure all campaign activity is delivered in accordance with Our Watch s campaign management framework, and oversee the development and implementation of individual campaign strategies and plans. Communication strategy development and implementation - Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of the annual organisational marketing and communications strategy to support delivery of Our Watch s strategic plan. - Provide high-level strategic media and communications advice and briefings across the organisation, including issues management. - Ensure timely and strategic proactive and reactive media engagement to maximise opportunities to build Our Watch s reputation. - Oversee the development of Our Watch s digital presence, including the redevelopment of the Our Watch website. Relationship management - Actively engage with internal stakeholders, working closely with the Chief Executive Officer, to ensure effective liaison, briefing and integration of marketing and communications activity. - Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including federal and state government departments and other sector organisations. - Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with equivalent marketing and communications positions at key sector organisations. - Manage relevant corporate partnership relationships. 3 Leadership and management - Participate actively as a member of the Senior Executive Team, including contributing to organisational planning and decision making. - Lead, coach and develop a team of marketing and communications professionals, actively developing their skills through performance reviews, coaching, professional development and performance management. - Pursue continuous improvement in the team s functioning and delegate tasks and responsibilities to team members appropriately. Teamwork and collaboration - Work collaboratively across the organisation in accordance with Our Watch s collaboration model, and actively encourage others to do the same. - Share knowledge and experience across the organisation. - Identify opportunities for innovation and improving efficiency and effectiveness of Our Watch s operations. - Contribute to maintaining an environment where differences are valued, encouraged and supported. Governance - Develop and manage the budget for the Marketing and Communications team, ensuring expenditure does not exceed allocated budget. - Ensure the achievement of all project deliverables, including reporting to funders, the Our Watch Communications Committee and board. - Provide leadership across the organisation and identify and manage risks in accordance with the Risk Management Policy. - Act in accordance with Our Watch s Code of Conduct, policies, procedures and values. - Take responsibility at all times for maintaining a safe and healthy workplace environment for all. 4 KEY SELECTION CRITERIA 1. Qualifications and experience 2. Marketing and Communications skills 3. Leadership and management Tertiary qualifications in marketing, media, communications or another related field. Experience in a leadership role in the government or community sector Experience working with boards and board sub-committees. Experience in media engagement, including experience providing high-level strategic leadership, advice and briefings on media issues. Strong understanding of social marketing and behaviour change principles and their application to marketing campaigns. Understanding of website design and development principles, including content strategy development and user experience. Experience working as part of an organisational leadership team High level leadership skills, including excellent interpersonal, communication, engagement and negotiation skills Experience managing a team, including resource allocation, coaching and development, employee engagement and performance management Ability to model the behaviour expected of others and develop a positive team culture that embraces inclusive, cooperative and collaborative work practices. 4. Strategic and analytical skills Excellent strategic thinking skills, including the ability to consider wide-ranging possibilities and translate into practical activities. Ability to synthesize complex information to develop clear strategies, supported by evidence and with an appropriate mix of marketing and communications channels and activities. 5. Governance Demonstrated experience leading projects, including responsibility for deliverables, budgets and resourcing Excellent individual and team time management, prioritisation and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple conflicting needs and prioritise effectively Ability to anticipate risks, issues and barriers and manage them quickly and effectively. 6. 5 7. Stakeholder engagement and relationship development Proven record of both welcoming and providing constructive feedback. Extensive experience in facilitating and maintaining strong, positive relationships with stakeholders, partners and suppliers, both internally and externally. Demonstrated ability to identify and manage a range of complex and often competing stakeholder needs, and find innovative solutions to resolve problems. 8.
