2 ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB TASKS 1. 40% Directs and oversees all aspects of the finance, accounting, budget, and tax and audit activities/functions of the company for the purpose of ensuring the company remains financially viable. Tasks may include, but not be limited to working closely with sales and marketing to ensure accurate forecasts, conducting effective and accurate forecasting, ensuring sufficient revenues and margins, recommending and managing a process for the timely and effective analysis of information, collaborating with colleagues to obtain the necessary information to construct forecasts, challenging the validity of information presented, providing recommendations, preparing and sharing timely reports, revising information in a proactive manner, managing the budget process and the budget itself, soliciting budget requests from each Management Team member, preparing the means for submitting timely and effective budget requests, collaborating with colleagues to explain and assist each with an effective budget management process, presenting timely and accurate budget information to the group, presenting clear and concise budget explanations, providing recommendations, demonstrating flexibility in accomplishing flexible, but effective budget management, promoting responsible budget management throughout each department, evaluating and advising on the impact of long range planning, providing strategic financial input and leadership on key issues, presenting on complex issues, communicating the short and long term impact of business decisions to all levels of the company including potential risks as well as the potential for returns, demonstrating knowledge of regulated and competitive environments, providing timely and accurate analysis of financial reports and trends, developing innovative solutions to business challenges, developing a cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism ensuring adequate cash flow to meet operating needs, evaluating the company needs and the requirements, working to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of processes, engaging in regular and periodic reviews with the General Manager and the Board of Directors, accepting direction, etc. Monitored by informal meetings with the General Manager and through monthly and quarterly reports % Manages the lines of business for the purpose of ensuring the company s products and services obtain the necessary revenues and margins to support the future of the company. Tasks may include, but not be limited to confirming the desired revenues and margins for all products/services, confirming all other appropriate and necessary measures for all products/services, confirming exit criteria for all products/services, gathering data from other colleagues, preparing reports for management team meetings, distributing information and recommendations well in advance of scheduled meetings, collaborating with colleagues prior to meetings, actively participating in management team meetings, providing timely and clear explanation of information prior to and during meetings, introducing new strategies and product lines, etc. Monitored by the General Manager and Management Team through presentation of reports and consideration of feedback from colleagues % Supervises the Accounting Supervisor for the purpose of ensuring that position has the necessary guidance to accomplish the work of the remainder of the Accounting Page 2 of 5

Tasks may include, but not be limited to providing direction, giving instructions, planning, staffing, controlling, directing, providing feedback, monitoring, disciplining, training, coaching, approving leave, clarifying policy and practice, troubleshooting as requested, etc. Monitored by the General Manager through periodic meetings, observations, and consideration of feedback from the Accounting Supervisor % Assists employees within the department to accomplish tasks for the purpose of ensuring information is available for the required monthly reports and accounting to the Board of Directors and Management. Tasks may include, but not be limited to obtaining hard to get information and data from others, reviewing work done to ensure accuracy, providing advice on how to handle certain transactions, and minimizing interruptions and delays. Complete quarterly matrixes and annual reviews of direct reports. Monitored by the General Manager as well as self monitored by the Controller and by review of dates met % Performs accounting functions for the purpose of ensuring the company has sufficient records to meet operating and reporting requirements. Tasks may include, but not be limited to overseeing company receipts, payables, cash flow, loan funds, etc., working with other departments to get proper paperwork such as invoices, orders, and other pertinent information, recording paperwork, and processing paperwork in a timely and businesslike manner working with accounting, bookkeeping, billing staff, and inventory agent, recording payables, recording, receivables, maintaining receipts and billing records, verifying, retrieving, and providing records for auditors, CPA s, NECA, RUS, NPSC, etc., establishing and maintaining proper methods of internal controls, creating an annual budget within set dates by the Board and working with vendors on statements and invoices, etc. Monitored by informal meetings with the General Manager and through regular reports including audit reports % Provides oversight for the purpose of ensuring the company remains in legal and regulatory compliance. Tasks may include, but not be limited to working with employees to ensure correct rates for billing and charges and that payroll, property, sales, and income taxes are properly recorded and paid as required by law. Monitored by the General Manager through the required reports and by feedback from the company attorney as appropriate. (Continually looks for new and improved ways of completing the above functions. Other tasks as assigned by supervisor will be performed in order to address unexpected situations or needs that may arise.) RESPONSIBILITIES: This position requires the ability to participate as a member of a team, which is essential for problem solving activities and completing tasks. To accomplish job tasks information must be obtained from others, tasks delegated, feedback presented, and formal and informal training provided. This position is also responsible for establishing and maintaining positive relations by effectively communicating at all levels of the company internally and externally. Negotiation and persuasion is required within the company and externally with other companies and vendors. Page 3 of 5

4 Responsible for participating in strategic planning regularly and reviewing the company s status at least monthly. LATITUDE: Duties are self-defined with complete flexibility in scheduling and accomplishing job tasks. Problem solving requires extensive knowledge. Responsible for identifying department problems and providing resolution. Decisions are made independently based on company policy and in collaboration with the supervisor and/or the Management Team. Purchase decisions are made within budgetary limitations. Input is provided in hiring/firing, promotion, transfer, and salary decisions. Some decisions involving write offs, waiver of charges, monetary transactions, and contractual commitments are made. IMPACT OF POSITION: Successful completion of essential job functions supports the company by providing consistent and accurate reporting of financial information necessary for management decision making and for meeting regulatory obligations. Errors could result from insufficient or inaccurate data leading to poor management decisions. CUSTOMER SERVICE/INTERACTION: Daily phone, written, and face-to-face interaction with employees throughout the company to complete work tasks. Weekly phone, written, and face-to-face interaction with customers. Weekly phone and written contact with vendors. ESSENTIAL SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION: Master s degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or a related field, desired. Bachelor s degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or a related field, required. 5 Computer Multi-tasking EXPERIENCE: At least five years as a financial executive, required. Greater than five years accounting and finance, required. Three to five years management/supervision, required. Three to five years competitive telecommunications, desired. LICENSE: A valid Nebraska driver s license and a good driving record, required. Certified Public Accountant, required. EQUIPMENT: Computer, phone, and general office equipment. PHYSICAL: Occasional bending, twisting, turning, and lifting up to 40 lbs. independently, required. Frequent visualizing of a computer screen and demonstration of manual dexterity, required. TRAINING: Training within the company must be completed within six months. Accounting software training outside of the company must be completed within six months. Ongoing training as required by the company. WORK CONDITIONS: Office environment.
