1 Summary Any company or firm becomes an Organization when it has its assets and resources properly structured. This article deals with setting up an Organization Plan in SAP HR and the relationships that are formed between the Organizational objects. 3 Organizational Plan Organizational Plan forms the skeleton of an organization by structuring the various components in such a way that every object is connected (related) to the other in one or the other way. Organizational Objects Each bone of this skeleton called Organizational Plan, is called an Organizational Object. The organizational objects and their significance in Organizational Management are listed below. Organizational Unit: These are the functional units of an Organization. Depending on the Organization, it could be a department or a team. The object key for an Organizational Unit is O. Position: Positions are the individual employee assignments within an organization, such as Sales Manager or Marketing Secretary. The object key for Position is S. Job: A job is a general classification of work duties, tasks and responsibilities. Each job, manager or secretary for example, exists only once in the company. The object key for Job is C. Work Center: Work centers are the actual physical locations where work takes place. It could be the various branches of an Organization, located in different parts of the world. Task: A task is used to describe the activities that pertain to a certain job or position. Setting up an Organizational Plan This is done in transaction PPOCE. Creating Root Org Unit As the name suggests, Root Org Unit forms the root of the Organization structure. You can specify the validity period of the Org Unit here 2008 SAP AG 3

4 Specify the name and description for your Org Unit and Save The cost center, company code, Personnel Area and Personnel Subarea can be assigned to the Org Unit in account assignment tab 2008 SAP AG 4

5 Creating a Position Go to Managerial assignment view. Right click on the Org Unit Organization and click on Create to create a position that Belongs To the root Org Unit. Name the position as Area Manager. Also, mark it as the Chief Position (check Head of own Org Unit), meaning that this position manages the Org Unit 2008 SAP AG 5

6 Creating a Job Go to Edit -> Create Jobs. A popup as shown below appears. Specify the job name and description and Enter 2008 SAP AG 6

7 Assigning job to position Job Manager has been created. Next, assign this Job to the position Area Manager Assigning holder for the position Go to Reporting Structure view. Right click on the position Area Manager and Assign Select Holder done in PA40) Person from this list and select the employee to hold this position (Hiring of employees is 2008 SAP AG 7

8 Creating a Reports To structure Next, create a position Team Mgr which will report to Area Manager position (same way as position Area Manager was created). Let the job be the same, Manager. Once it is created, go to Reporting structure view of Area Manager. Right click on the position and Assign. Select Is line supervisor of Position from this list and select a position that will report to position Area Manager. Note: Once the Org Unit is created using PPOCE, the rest of the steps performed above can also be done using transaction PP01(Maintain Object) SAP AG 8

9 Relationships For all the objects created here, certain mutual relationships would have been created which can be seen in the Relationships infotype (1001). To check these relationships, go to transaction PP01, select the Object Type (Position, Job etc.), provide the Object ID, select Relationships and go to Overview. You will see all the related objects here.
