Bring in additional income 6. Contribute to global health and the UK offer on global health

4 International Health Development International development is a cross-cutting priority for Public Health Wales Mission: to help improve health and wellbeing, reduce inequalities and support sustainable development in Wales and beyond through active international engagement, collaboration and contribution to global health Overarching objectives: Increase the impact of international evidence, policy and good practice to improve health and wellbeing and reduce inequalities across Wales Enhance Welsh visibility and impact on UK, European and global health research, policy and practice Facilitate, develop and support international collaborations, partnerships and funding applications, increasing external income Support global health responsibility and sustainable development

8 Why do we need a Strategy? 1. To consolidate Public Health Wales future vision, direction and priorities for international and global health engagement 2. International development is a cross-cutting theme and priority throughout our strategic plan (the IMTP) 3. To consolidate the role that the organisation plays in contributing to global health, sustainable development and planetary health 4. To link with and contribute to implementing key national legislation such as the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act To link with and contribute to the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, WHO European Health 2020 and the UK global health offer

9 How is the Strategy being developed? 1. Learning from other successful strategies. 2. Engaging individually with key internal and external stakeholders. 3. Through an online consultation, enable a wider range of internal and external stakeholders to contribute to the strategy. 4. Facilitating events to allow a wider range of stakeholders to contribute to the strategy. 5.Bringing together all input and provide a draft.

10 Summary of consultation responses 50 complete responses as of 09/11/16. 45% of Public Health Wales respondents have been involved in international work as part of their work in the organisation and 30% have been involved outside of the organisation. Priorities: (Percentage of respondents thinking that the following priorities are very important or quite important.) Partnerships 89% Expertise and capacity building 91 % Policy 94% Global Health Development 85% Evidence 97% Implementing charter 69% Income generation 79% Improving coherence and coordination of international work 89% Strategy achieving its aims: 54% of respondents think that PHW board should be responsible with 52% thinking that nominated divisional leads, consultants and managers should be responsible.
