1 Position Title: Invasive Species Technician Salary: $30,000/year for 3 years, bonus upon completion of the grant Status: 35 Hours/week, District Employee Duration: Three Year Grant Position Summary: The Invasive Species Technician will be a three-year district employee assigned to work with the Soil and Water Conservation Districts in Gibson, Pike, Posey, Vanderburgh and Warrick Counties to provide hands-on exposure to all aspects of invasive plant species eradication. Daily activities will include creating Cooperative Invasive Species Management Areas (CISMA) in each county, serving as the coordinator; working with a variety of audiences to provide technical advice on the removal of invasive species; mapping critical areas; and providing public outreach opportunities. Responsibilities: Establish a Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area in each of the counties serving as the coordinator to ensure successful formation and continuation of the CISMA including night meetings as necessary. Work with elected officials, landowners, drainage boards, county highway departments, schools, non-profit groups and other interested parties to promote invasive species awareness and removal. Maintain a close working relationship with Natural Resource Conservation Service, Indiana State Department of Agriculture, Department of Natural Resources, Purdue Cooperative Extension, Southern Indiana Cooperative Invasives Management, and other Indiana Conservation Partners providing technical assistance for invasive species control plan development in the counties. Survey, identify and map concentrated areas of invasive species using EDDMapS. Use Early Detection Rapid Response (EDRR) for invasions in the five counties. Create priority species and management plans for targeted areas. Develop new educational materials and/or trainings to promote invasive species awareness. Seek additional funding for continuation of invasive species position and expansion of the invasive species project by submitting grant applications. Maintain detailed reports for allocation of grant money and financials. Submit monthly work activities report to each county s board of supervisors. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications 4 Year Bachelor s Degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Sciences or related field of study, preferred Knowledge of terrestrial and aquatic invasive plant species and the proper removal techniques. Knowledge of Arc GIS/Arc Maps. Familiar with Microsoft Office programs. Able to communicate effectively and develop strong interpersonal relationships. Motivated self-starter, able to work independently with minimal direction. Able to work in all weather conditions and perform rigorous physical work on various terrains. Must have valid driver s license. Able to pass Federal Background check. Travel and overnight stays will be required on occasion.
